Bradley named to Manning Award Watch List

Fourth preseason watch list for Jaguar quarterback

NEW ORLEANS – Senior Carter Bradley was named to his fourth preseason watch list on Tuesday as he was named to the Manning Award Watch List, sponsored by the Allstate Sugar Bowl.

Bradley is one of 33 quarterbacks on the list heading into the 2023 season, which is unique in that it also considers bowl performance when considering its winner.

The 6-foot-3 Jaguar quarterback has also been named to the Davey O'Brien, Wuerffel Trophy and Maxwell Award Watch Lists this summer. Bradley has also earned numerous preseason all-SBC honors this summer, including Athlon Sports, Phil Steele and PFF, and was one of seven Jags to earn second-team honors from the league coaches last month.

In his first season after transferring from Toledo, Bradley set school records in passing yards (3,326), completions (276) and touchdowns (28) in his first year at South Alabama. He ranked in the top 50 nationally in 11 different categories, including 22nd in passing touchdowns and 25th in passing yards in 2022 and passed for three or more touchdowns in a game seven different times during the season, including four against Texas State.

The Jacksonville, Fla., native also passed for 250 or more yards seven different times on the season, including 300 or more three times. He threw for 377 yards against Western Kentucky in the R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl, for 354 yards and three touchdowns on the road against Central Michigan before setting a school record with 420 yards and three touchdowns against ULM.

The winner will again be selected by a voting panel, which includes national media and each of the Mannings, after the bowls. The Manning Award was created by the Allstate Sugar Bowl in honor of the college football accomplishments of Archie, Peyton and Eli Manning. It is the only quarterback award that includes the candidates' bowl performances in its balloting.

Inclusion on the Watch List is not necessary for the quarterbacks to be selected for the honor. Transfers and other newcomers at schools were not eligible for the preseason Watch List, but additional quarterbacks will be added to the Watch List during the season. Finalists will be selected prior to the postseason and the winner will be announced following the College Football Playoff National Championship.

ABOUT THE MANNING AWARD
The Manning Award, now in its 19th year, was created by the Allstate Sugar Bowl to honor the college football accomplishments of Archie, Peyton and Eli Manning. It is the only quarterback award that takes into consideration the candidates' bowl and playoff performances in its balloting. The award is voted on by a panel of local and national media, as well as each of the Mannings.
