Jaguars beat Southern Miss to close out home schedule

MOBILE, Ala. | South Alabama got a 5-2 win Sunday afternoon over Sun Belt newcomers Southern Miss at the Bruce David Lubel Memorial Tennis Courts.
 
South Alabama struck first in doubles, getting a 6-2 win from Luminita Tutunaru and Tereza Dejnozkova at number one over Ebru Zeynep Yazgan/Alyssa Richter of Southern Miss.
 
The Jags clinched the doubles point with a 6-4 win the doubles duo of Nikola Novotna and Elysia Pool, beating Clara Tardivel and Maddison Ricardo.
 
In singles, South claimed first sets on five of six courts, eventually winning matches on four of six singles courts.
 
Senior Luminita Tutunaru earned the first singles win of the day, beating Ebru Zeynep Yazgan 6-1, 6-3 at number one, giving South the 2-0 lead.
 
Southern Miss got on the board with a win at number two, with Alyssa Richter beating Nikola Novotna 6-4, 6-4 to make the score 2-1.
 
At number four, Tereza Dejnozkova got her 12th win of the year, beating Clara Tardivel 6-0, 7-5 to give South the 3-1 advantage.
 
Elysia Pool clinched the match for South Alabama with a 7-5, 6-0 win at number three, beating Suhana Das of Southern Miss.
 
Freshman Chems Doha Zeghlouli extended South Alabama's lead to 5-1 following a 6-3, 3-6, 10-1 win over Maddison Ricardo at number six.
 
Southern Miss earned one more point on the day, getting a win at number five from Zenn Lim, beating Delien Kleinhans 3-6, 6-3, 10-7.
 
The Jags (15-5, 5-4) hit the road next weekend, traveling to Louisiana for a match Saturday, April 22 at 10 a.m.
