MOBILE, Ala. | Three South Alabama pitchers combined for 17 strikeouts, but it wasn't enough as Iowa scored five unanswered runs over the last six innings to defeat the Jags 6-2 on the second day of the South Alabama Invitational presented by the Hampton by Hilton at Providence Park on Saturday night at Stanky Field.
Gehrig Conard (0-3) struck out 11 in the start for South Alabama (5-6), working 4.0 innings and allowing four runs on six hits.
Matthew DeLano came out of the bullpen to work 2.2 innings and allow two runs off one hit with three strikeouts, while
Danny Diaz went 2.1 innings and allowed just one hit with three strikeouts.
South Alabama was held to just four hits in the loss with four different players each getting one, while the Jags also reached on six walks and three different hit by pitches.
How It Happened
- (T2) Sam Hojnar singled to left to score Kyle Huckstorf, Iowa 1-0.
- (B3) Colson Lawrence singled to short to score DK Donaldson before Will Turner singled through the right side to score Erick Orbeta to give South Alabama the lead, South Alabama 2-1.
- (T4) Cade Moss singled home a run before Michael Seegers tripled down the right field line to score Moss and Hojnar, Iowa 4-2.
- (T7) Brennen Dorighi singled to center to drive home a pair of runs, Iowa 6-2.
