Quotes
Head Coach Mark Calvi
- On the win:
"We had multiple guys with RBIs and a bunch of really good at-bats to get on base, and there were some guys with good nights who have struggled – (Robbie) Petracci for one; he's had kind of a rough start, it's very early, but he just looked more like himself in there hitting the big home run. We had some really good at-bats up and down the lineup. I thought
Mitchell Heer in his first start was fantastic, and our pitchers, when you look at it – we gave up seven runs and a bunch of hits – but whenever I went to the bullpen and the game was on the line those guys closed their inning out. You don't want to use that many pitchers, but when we have some depth, if a guy does falter a little bit, you can go to another good guy down there and that's what we did tonight.
"(Zach) Willingham came in in the third inning with one of their (Tulane) guys up, and throws the breaking ball down and in for the strikeout, that was huge because there was a lot of offense tonight and some good arms thrown out there for both sides. I just thought it was whichever pitcher settled their side down was the team that was going to win. You could feel it was an offensive night, and we had some hitters in counts where we could have put them away and we didn't, but I give Tulane credit. There are a couple of guys when we get ahead of hitters 0-2 or 1-2 that we need to put them away. We had some strikeouts on the pitching side, but we also gave up some two-strike hits. We just didn't put them away when we had them in that compromised count, and that's something we need to get better at moving forward."
