MOBILE, Ala. – The Sun Belt Conference released its football all-conference awards Thursday, and 10 student-athletes from South Alabama were recognized for their on-field performance this season.
Wide receiver
Caullin Lacy and defensive back
Jaden Voisin were recognized on the All-Sun Belt First Team while linebacker
Quentin Wilfawn earned second-team honors. Running back
La'Damian Webb, defensive lineman
Wy'Kevious Thomas and defensive back
Yam Banks all represented the Jags on the conference's third team, and quarterback
Carter Bradley, wide receiver
Jamaal Pritchett, offensive lineman
Reggie Smith and linebacker
Trey Kiser were all recognized as honorable mentions. Lacy was also a third-team selection as an all-purpose player.
FIRST TEAM
Lacy was one of the nation's best receivers all season long, catching 91 passes for 1,316 yards and seven touchdowns. At the close of the regular season, Lacy ranks fifth in the nation in receiving yards, fifth in the nation in receptions and 12th in the nation in all-purpose yards. Five of Lacy's seven touchdowns on the year were explosive plays of 30 yards or more.
Voisin was a menace in the defensive backfield for the Jags in 2023, recording a team-high four interceptions to go with seven broken up passes. He finished fourth on the team in tackles with 66, 29 of which were solo takedowns. Voisin made two tackles for loss on the year, and forced one fumble.
SECOND TEAM
Wilfawn finished the season as South Alabama's leading tackler with 81 tackles, 15 of which were for loss, and 6.5 sacks. The redshirt senior had one of the biggest defensive games in school history when he recorded 4.5 tackles for loss and a sack against Louisiana. That game also kicked off a three-week stretch where he made 36 tackles in three contests. In addition to his tackle numbers, Wilfawn produced six quarterback hurries, two forced fumbles and a pass breakup.
THIRD TEAM
Webb was among the nation's best running backs this season, finishing the year with 16 touchdowns in 11 games played. Those 16 rushing touchdowns were the sixth-most in college football in 2023. From game two against Southeastern Louisiana through game 11 versus Marshall, Webb scored every single week. Webb broke the 1,000-yard barrier this season with 1,007 yards on 186 carries, giving him a 5.4 average per attempt. The senior also caught 24 passes for 144 yards and a touchdown.
Thomas anchored South Alabama's defensive line for the year with 36 tackles and a quarterback hurry. Thomas recorded 2.5 tackles for loss on the season and one sack. Thomas' best game of the season came at James Madison when he tallied six tackles, 1.5 for loss and half a sack. He also recorded six tackles at Troy.
Banks did a little of everything in South's defensive backfield in 2023, finishing the year with 44 tackles, 4.5 for loss and one sack. He also recorded one interception, one forced fumble, two pass breakups and three quarterback hurries. His most productive game of the year was in the Jags' home opener against Southeastern Louisiana when he made seven tackles and picked off a pass.
In addition to his dynamic play as a receiver, Lacy helped the Jaguars in several other areas. He finished the year 12th in America in all-purpose yards with 1,566 with 130.5 yards per game. His average of 10.0 yards per punt return was 20th in the nation, and his 210 total punt return yards were 13th in the country.
HONORABLE MENTION
Bradley started and played in 11 of South Alabama's 12 games on the season, throwing for 2,660 yards and 19 touchdowns while completing 68 percent of his passes.
Pritchett finished the year strong to be the Jaguars' second-leading receiver with 49 catches for 756 yards and six touchdowns.
Smith served as South Alabama's starting center for all 12 games this season, helping the Jags rush for 1,902 yards and throw for 3,179.
Kiser completed the 2023 season as the second-leading tackler for USA, making 68 tackles, 9.5 for loss and 2.5 sacks.
