MOBILE, Ala. – The South Alabama men's basketball team will be looking to get back in the win column this weekend in a road game against the Jacksonville State Gamecocks on Thursday, Nov. 30 at 6 p.m. in Pete Mathews Coliseum.

Last Time Out

After trailing by three points at the end of a back-and-forth first half, South Alabama struggled to find a rhythm offensively and fell to the Maryland Terrapins 68-55 Saturday night. 

The Series

- This will be the sixth matchup between South Alabama and Jacksonville State.
- The Jaguars lead the all-time series 3-2. 
- Head Coach Richie Riley holds a 2-1 record over the Gamecocks.
- Last season, the Jaguars defeated Jacksonville State 71-66 behind a strong second half comeback and 18 points from Tyrell Jones. 

About Jacksonville State (3-4)

• Jacksonville State is ranked 8th in Conference USA. They are coming off a 2-1 outing at the Road Runner classic, where they beat UTSA and Incarnate Word after falling to Incarnate Word in the first matchup of the tournament. 

• The Gamecocks are led by head coach Ray Harper, who is entering his eighth season at Jacksonville State and 25th season overall as a head coach. He sports a 135-98 record at Jacksonville State and a 567-225 overall record as a head coach after spending seasons at Western Kentucky, Oklahoma City, and Kentucky Wesleyan. 

• Kyky Tandy and Quincy Clark have been the top performers for the Gamecocks this season. Tandy averages 17.0 points, two assists, and 1.9 steals per contest. He scored 20 points against Utah Tech and Incarnate Word earlier this year. Clark contributes 11.7 points and 3.3 assists per contest. 

• The Gamecocks have fallen in two last-second game-winning shots this season against Utah Tech and Incarnate Word. 

Notes

• The Jaguars are ranked fourth in the Sun Belt with a 4-4 record. They sport a 3-2 record at home and a 1-2 on the road. 

• South Alabama scores 73.0 points per contest, while Jacksonville State averages 70.9 points per game. 

• Isiah Gaiter (16.5), Julian Margrave (13.4), Maxwell Land (10.6), and Marcus Millender all average double figures in scoring this season. 

• South Alabama has the upper hand in the all-time series, holding a 3-2 overall record over Jacksonville State.  

• Gaiter has scored double-figures in seven of his first eight games at South Alabama. He also ranks fifth in the Sun Belt Conference in field goal percentage (56.0) and points per game (16.5). 

•  Margrave has been electric for the Jaguars in his four starts this season. He leads the Jaguars with a 45.7 three-point percentage and 15 total three-pointers this season. 
• The Jaguars recorded a new season high in field goal percentage (61.1) and three-point percentage (61.7) against SIUE.  

• Millender is second in the Sun Belt Conference and 48th in the country in assists per game (4.3).

• Against Maryland, the Jaguars shot 100 percent from the free throw line for the first time since January of 2021 against Georgia Southern. 

• Maxwell Land set a new career-high in rebounds (8) and steals (3) at Maryland. 

• Thomas Howell leads the Jaguars in rebounds per game (5.1). 

• The Jags have a 3-2 record in their last five matchups. They secured wins over Denver, SIUE, Lynn,  after falling to Alabama and Nicholls.
