MOBILE, Ala. – The No. 1 seeded Jaguars scored a go-ahead goal in the 50
th minute that proved to be enough, giving South Alabama the 2-1 win over Texas State in the Sun Belt Conference quarterfinals.

South Alabama struck first, with
Monique Gray scoring her second goal in the season in the 10
th minute of the match, off assists from
Abby Jacobs and
Jasmine Greene.
Â
South Alabama held off the Bobcat counterattack and the match went into halftime with South Alabama up 1-0. South Alabama slightly edged Texas State offensively in the first half, taking seven shots compared to four from Texas State.

The Bobcats responded immediately after halftime, with Mya Ulloa heading the ball into the back of the net in the 46
th minute, off assists from Olivia Wright and Wemberley Wright.

South Alabama took the lead again just four minutes later, when
Chiara Singarella ripped a left-footed shot past the Texas State keeper to give South the 2-1 lead with 30 left to play in the match. The goal was her third game-winner of the season.

South had a chance to extend its lead in the 78
th minute, but a shot from
Gracie Wilson just missed the upper corner of the goal.

The Jaguar defense showed its strength late in the match, holding off the Texas State attack to secure the quarterfinals win.

South Alabama was led offensively by Singarella, who took seven shots and scored the game winning goal. South totaled 14 shots as a team, with seven on frame.

Jaidy Gutierrez Campos faced 12 shots on the night and made four saves. Â
