South Alabama Loses in Opening Match to Texas State

SAN MARCOS, Texas - South Alabama (17-4, 8-1) takes first conference loss to Texas State (13-7, 6-3) on Friday night in Strahan Arena, 3-0.

Hannah Maddux opened strong with back to back aces, but a 12-2 run early full of Jaguar errors created a climb for South. A USA run put them back within two, but the Jaguars were unable to keep pace with the Bobcats as Texas State took the opening set, 25-20.

Maddux and Niki Capizzi both opened with multiple kills in the second set, but a pair of aces began another Bobcat run, this on 9-1 that left the Jaguars behind. Maddux traded points with Texas State but USA lost another close set, 25-22.

In the third set, South kept up with Texas State into the double digits, but six unanswered Bobcat points left the Jaguars lagging behind. Kills became few and far between for USA as Texas State left no doubt in the 25-17 set.

Hannah Maddux led the team with 15 kills on .229 hitting with Capizzi ending with eight and Maddie Soboleski with seven. Capizzi and Soboleski finished with two blocks each, and Kailey Keeble led the team in assists with 29. Paige Lynn led the team on 17 digs, with Keeble finishing with 13.
