SAN MARCOS, Texas - South Alabama (17-5, 8-2) loses in four sets to Texas State (14-7, 7-3) in divisional matchup.
The first set saw an even, see-saw round between the squads. Early action by
Maddie Soboleski gave the Bobcats trouble, as there was seemingly no answer for her attacks today. In the middle of the set,
Anna Loberg brought the Jags back even at 14 with a pair of service aces, followed by a
Niki Capizzi ace to put South up 17-16. Losing 21-19, South Alabama took the set on a dominant run scoring six of the last seven points in the set. Soboleski led the charge with two kills and a solo block.
Hannah Maddux led the team in the second frame with three kills and an ace that kept the Jags competitive early, but a strong 7-1 run for Texas State led the Bobcats to a set two win, regardless of a late Capizzi ace, 25-14.
The Jaguars fought through another close set that saw a lot of production spread around the USA lineup. Maddux, Capizzi, and Soboleski all saw at least three kills each. The Bobcats held onto the late lead with a 25-22 win for the set advantage.
Set four saw long runs by both teams traded back and forth. Soboleski took control early making the forefront of both of South's early point streaks. In total, Soboleski finished the round with seven kills. The Bobcats got the final run though, making a four-point run to win the match on a 25-20 set.
Soboleski, Maddux, and
Abryanna Cannon finished with 10+ kills each, with 18, 12, and 10, respectively. The Jags finished with five service aces. Two from Loberg, two from Capizzi, one from Maddux, and one from Soboleski.
Paige Lynn led the team in digs with 22, followed by
Kailey Keeble's 14, Soboleski's 13, and
