NEW ORLEANS – Over 200 South Alabama student-athletes were named to either the 2021-22 Sun Belt Conference Commissioner's List or Academic Honor Roll as announced by the league office on Thursday.
 
The Jaguars placed 122 student-athletes on the Commissioner's List, while 88 student-athletes represented South Alabama on the Academic Honor Roll. 15 sponsored sports had representatives on either one or both of these lists.
 
The Commissioner's List honors student-athletes who earned a 3.5 grade point average (GPA) or better during the 2021-22 academic year while the Academic Honor Roll honors those student-athletes who maintained a GPA between 3.00 and 3.49 for the academic year.
 
Softball led the way among the programs on the Commissioner's List with 16 selections, while football had 15 and was followed by women's track & field (14), men's track & field (13) and volleyball (12). Women's tennis also had eight of its nine roster members named to the list.
 
On the Academic Honor Roll, football led the way with 21 selections and was followed in double figures by baseball (18).

In addition to the individual recognitions, South Alabama's athletic program produced the second-highest combined GPA in the conference at 3.26, trailing only Georgia Southern's 3.34.

Sun Belt student-athletes charted a combined average GPA of 3.19 for the 2021-22 academic year.
