ATLANTA – For the second straight season, senior South Alabama safety
Keith Gallmon Jr. has been named to the Wuerffel Trophy Watch List as announced by the organization Thursday morning.
Gallmon is one of 115 individuals from the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) level in consideration for the award honoring college football's top community servant.  The preseason watch list is the second for Gallmon this month as he was announced as a nominee for the American Football Coaches Association's Allstate AFCA Good Works Team®.
Nominations for the Wuerffel Trophy are made by the respective universities' Sports Information Departments and will close on Oct.14. An up-to-date list of nominees can be found at www.wuerffeltrophy.org beginning on Aug. 1. Semifinalists for the award will be announced on Nov. 1, and finalists will be announced on Nov. 22. The formal announcement of the 2022 recipient is scheduled to be made on Dec. 8, and the presentation of the 2022 Wuerffel Trophy will occur on Feb. 24, 2023 in Fort Walton Beach, Fla.
Off the field, Gallmon serves on a number of different programs, including the Jaguar Athletics Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee, which promotes a culture in which diversity, equity and inclusion are integral components of the educational experience of student-athletes and staff. He also serves with Ransom Ministries and the National Society of Leadership and Success, while volunteering at the Boys and Girls Club along with working AJ McCarron's Annual Football Camp. Last fall, Gallmon also read to kids at Cottage Hill Christian School.
Earlier this week, Gallmon was selected first-team all-Sun Belt Conference by the league's coaches and media, and also received preseason accolades from Athlon Sports (first team) and Phil Steele Publications (third-team) in June. He was voted second-team all-league last fall and also earned second-team honors from Phil Steele Publications and Pro Football Network after posting 59 stops — including 2½ behind the line of scrimmage — two pass break ups, an interception and a fumble recovery. Gallmon finished second on the team in total tackles after leading the Jaguars in the category in four games, tied for most on the squad.
