MOBILE, Ala. – The University of South Alabama men's basketball team will host Sun Belt opponent Coastal Carolina in the semifinals of The Basketball Classic on Monday at 7 p.m. (CST) at the Mitchell Center.
The Jags took down Coastal Carolina 71-68 back on Feb. 17 when Kayo Goncalves knocked down a three-pointer as time expired to secure the victory.
South has now won two games this postseason for just the second time in program history. The Jaguars won two games in the 1981 NIT. South Alabama made history in the first round, winning its first postseason game since the 1988-89 season.
Javon Franklin recorded a career-high 28 points on 10-of-12 shooting and grabbed seven rebounds in the win over USC Upstate on Monday. The Little Rock, Ark. native was also named the Travis Grant Game MVP for his performance in the first-round game against Southeastern Louisiana.
South Alabama's 21 wins are the most for the program since the 2007-08 team won 26 games. The Jags have won at least 20 games in two out of four seasons under Richie Riley.
Coastal Carolina defeated Maryland Eastern Shore 66-42 in the first round and knocked off Florida Gulf Coast 84-68 on Monday to advance to the semifinals. The Chanticleers are 18-13 on the season.
All games will be broadcast on the ESPN+ platforms throughout the tournament.
