THEY SAID IT
Head Coach Nick Brochu
- On today's performance:
"It was a big match today. We played a really long match yesterday and North Florida came out a little fresher than us and we knew that. I think we had an excellent start in doubles. The difference between yesterday and today was that we got up a break, especially at number two, and we were not able to close it like yesterday. They came back really strong and we didn't react like we did yesterday. I'm not saying we were passive, but we were not as aggressive as yesterday. It took the doubles point away from us and I think that was hard for us to swallow. We were a little more tired than them and we had to catch up and that was tough. The other thing that was a little harder today, was when we saw on the board that we were down 2-0. When you are tired and you know you have to catch up and play from behind, it can be tough. But, I am very proud of my guys. We fought so hard. For a while, it was looking excellent for us. We were winning on pretty much five courts but we just couldn't keep the lead. The match was 4-1 but we were winning on number two and was a game away from winning on court three. So, it would have been 4-3 and overall a great battle. Nonetheless, we have to dig deeper. Some of the guys weren't playing their best tennis and that got to them mentally. After the match, we talked about it's not about playing great, it is about playing good enough. We need to learn from today and that good enough can get you the win and that is what it is all about. It's not about playing pretty or having a good day, it is about playing with the cards that you are dealt. Some of the guys are good with that and some of the guys need to learn. We are looking forward to two days of recovery and practice and then get ready for South Florida."
