MOBILE, Ala. – University of South Alabama volleyball head coach Jesse Ortiz announced Thursday the addition of Hannah Barrett as assistant coach.

Barrett joins the staff after spending the 2021 season at Texas Tech as director of operations. Prior to her stint at TTU, Barrett spent two seasons at Gonzaga as a volunteer coach and director of operations while working toward her master's degree in sport and athletic administration. 

"Hannah has a lot of experience at a few different institutions, has championship-level play and been a part of some pretty high-level programs as a player and coach," USA head coach Jesse Ortiz said. "I like the fact that she is extremely versed in the job of being a volleyball coach. I think her mentality from her experiences are going to help augment our group. I'm really excited about it. She stood out amongst the other candidates pretty heavily, not only with her experience around volleyball but also what she has done in volleyball programs."

During her time in Spokane, Wash., she assisted in coaching duties, statistical data analysis, coordinated travel arrangements and helped with administrative duties.
 
Prior to arriving at Gonzaga, Barrett played volleyball at California State University San Bernardino where she served as a team captain her senior season. She helped the Coyotes to three California Collegiate Athletic Association conference championships, a West Regional Championship and a DII Elite Eight appearance in 2017. Barrett was heavily involved as a student-athlete, serving as Student-Athlete Advisory Committee President from 2017-19 after spending time as a treasurer and a student representative. 
 
Barrett, a native of Highland, Calif., graduated from CSUSB with a bachelor's degree in liberal studies in 2019.
