MOBILE, Ala. – The University of South Alabama women's tennis team defeated Samford 5-2 at the Bruce David Lubel Memorial Tennis Courts on Sunday. 

South won the doubles point with wins on courts three and one. After three sets Nikola Kohoutova clinched the singles point for the Jags on court one.

NOTES
- The Jags improved to 15-2 over the Bulldogs. 
- South competed in the Bulldog Invitational in the fall where the team recorded two doubles and six singles wins over Samford. 
- Fujioka and Van der Merwe recorded their first unfinished match after opening the season with seven straight wins.  
- Takanishi and Aoki earned their fourth win as a pair this season and Kohoutova and Tutunaru earned their fifth.

- On today's performance: "It was good to get a win. That was a tough match, a well contested match. Last year this team beat us pretty badly so I think this is a good measuring stick for our progress. Any time we get a win over them it's a good day for us."
