THEY SAID IT
Head Coach Nick Brochu
- On today's performance:
"It was a very good battle but a little frustrating. We played really good in doubles and we were able to come back at number one to make this a very close match. It came down to number three in doubles and it is frustrating when a point is taken away from us due to a bad call. It's just very frustrating when you win the doubles point and they don't make the call and everybody sees it. We had to move on and went to singles. I thought we had a slow start in singles. I don't know if we still had a little frustration carry over from doubles. But we had a slow start and worked our way back in singles. The big highlights today were Max [St-Hilaire] played a very solid match again. He keeps showing how much heart he has and never gives up. Jack [Clements] played some sensational tennis as well. He came up short but really pushed his opponent to the limit. Javy [Montoya] at number six was having a big fight as well. Looking back, we should have had the doubles point and we were right there in three matches. So, that was our four points. We need to do a better of job of getting the lead, which we did, we have to do a better job of keeping that lead. There was a lot of momentum changes in the match and a lot of ups and downs. We need to do a better job of taking care of our serves. Once you take care of your serves and you break, you just ride the wave all the way to the end of the set. So, we learned a lot from today. We had some guys that were playing okay, I've seen them play better. But, you don't have to play your best tennis to win, you just have to play just good enough. At some positions today, I think our expectations were a little too high. We were trying to play perfect and it doesn't happen every day, obviously. We were a little negative. So, we have to learn that good enough is all you have to work with sometimes and you have to win with that. We have to grow up from this match and mature because we are going on the road and it is going to be a big challenge. I liked today and we are going to learn from that and be ready for next weekend."
