Jags sign 12 on first day of early signing period

Class includes three local signees from the city of Mobile

MOBILE, Ala. | South Alabama signed 12 student-athletes to National Letters of Intent (NLIs) on Wednesday, including three from the city of Mobile.

The class includes:

Shamar Sandgren, 6-2, 175, WR, So., Savannah, Ga. (Island HS / Itawamba CC)
Sandgren played in eight games as a sophomore lasts season, recording 24 receptions for 480 yards… He recorded a season-high seven receptions for 96 yards against Northeast Mississippi with a pair of touchdowns, while also recording six receptions against Northwest Mississippi ad Holmes… He finished the season with a pair of 100-yard receiving games, and finished the season with five touchdown receptions… As a freshman, hauled in 57 receptions for 720 yards and six touchdowns on his way to earning 2021 All-MACCC North Division First Team honors… He recorded 13 receptions for 117 yards in his first game and followed that up with 10 receptions for 133 yards.  
 
Gio Lopez, 6-1, 210, QB, HS, Huntsville, Ala. (James Clemens HS)
A three-star by 247Sports and Rivals, Lopez was named First Team All-State by the Alabama Sportswriters Association (ASWA) his senior season, while also played for the North squad in the annual AHSAA North-South All-Star football game in December… As a junior threw for 2,767 yads and 29 touchdowns.
 
Reggie Neely, 6-0, 175, DB, JC, Memphis, Tenn. (EMCC / Tulane / Briarcrest Christian School)
Tulane University transfer and Memphis native who helped lead head coach Buddy Stephens' MACCC champion East Mississippi Community College's 8-3 Lions with five pass interceptions to rank tied for fourth in NJCAA Division I football (3rd in MACCC)… Ranked as nation's No. 23 overall junior college recruit (#5 CB) by On3.com… Picked off a pair of fourth-quarter passes during EMCC's 38-27 MACCC playoff win over Mississippi Gulf Coast… His other INTs came against Itawamba (31-yard return), Coahoma and Copiah-Lincoln… Also ranked second on the team with eight pass breakups this past year in addition to his 33 tackles from his cornerback position… 2022 All-MACCC/North Division Honorable Mention… Previously spent two years at Tulane… Made one appearance for the Green Wave in 2021, with a pair of tackles versus Morgan State… Did not see action for Tulane as a freshman in 2020… Earned a three-star rating from 247Sports.com while at Briarcrest Christian School… Ranked 57th among 2020 recruits out of Tennessee according to 247Sports.com and 10th among wide receivers in the state according to MaxPreps.com. 
 
Anthony Eager, 6-1, 170, WR, HS, Mobile, Ala. (McGill-Toolen HS)
As a junior, totaled 24 receptions for 412 yards and four touchdowns while playing with current Jag Braylon McReynolds… Also averaged 35.6 yards per kick return… Captured state titles in track and field in three events including 110-meter hurdles, 300-meter hurdles and triple jump… A three-star by 247Sports, he finished his senior season with over 1,000 yards receiving and 14 touchdowns, earning Second Team All-State honors by the Alabama Sportswriters Association (ASWA).
 
Josh Bledsoe, 6-1, 190, DB, HS, Lafayette, Ala. (Lafayette HS)
A three-star recruit by 247Sports, earned Second Team All-State honors from the Alabama Sportswriters Association (ASWA) as a receiver.

Trent Thomas, 6-6, 225, TE, HS, Mobile, Ala. (Cottage Hill Academy)
Named First Team All-State as an edge rusher by the Alabama Sportswriters Association (ASWA)… A two-sport athlete, Thomas also played basketball for Cottage Hill… Recorded 130 tackles with 16 sacks.
 
Jarvis Durr, 5-11, 193, RB, HS, Brandon, Miss. (Brandon HS)
A three-star running back according to 247Sports, Durr rushed for 689 yards during his senior season despite missing several games due to injury… He also rushed for nine touchdowns… During his junior season, rushed for 1,100 yards and 16 touchdowns… Was originally committed to Louisiana Tech.
 
Jordan Norman, 6-3, 230, DL, HS, Hoover, Ala. (Hoover HS)
Named Second Team All-State by the Alabama Sportswriters Association (ASWA) at defensive line… A three-star defensive lineman according to 247Sports, helped Hoover to an 11-2 record with 10 sacks as a senior…Also finished with 68 total tackles.
 
John Ward, 6-5, 280, OL, HS, Atmore, Ala. (Northview (Fla.) HS)
Three-star offensive lineman according to 247Sports, Ward had offers from Ap State, Colorado State, Georgia Tech, and UAB… Played on both sides of the football and finished his senior season with six sacks and 28 total tackles from his defensive line position in 12 games.
 
Karon Weary, 6-2, 180, DB, HS, Columbia, Miss. (East Marion HS)
A two-way player at East Marion High School, Weary finished with 83 tackles including 12 for loss. He also recorded three sacks, seven hurries and three pass breakups, while intercepting one pass and blocking a punt… On offense, he finished with nearly 1,200 all-purpose yards and 14 touchdowns.
 
Cole Blaylock, 6-0, 190, RB, HS, Mobile, Ala. (UMS-Wright)
Named First Team All-State by the Alabama Sportswriters Association at running back and was a South All-Star in the annual AHSAA North-South All-Star football game… A three-star running back according to 247Sports, led UMS-Wright to an undefeated regular season and the top ranking in 2022… As a junior, rushed for 1,398 yards and 19 touchdowns on 241 carries… He also caught 12 passes out of the backfield… Rushed for 2,029 yards and 27 touchdowns as a senior.
 
Adrian Griffin, 6-5, 260, OL, HS, Pleasant Grove, Ala. (Pleasant Grove HS)
A three-star lineman, Griffin flipped after committing to Troy in August… Had interest from several Power 5 schools including Georgia Tech and Kentucky… Played on both sides of the football for an 11-2 Pleasant Grove team that reached the state semifinals.
