MOBILE, Ala. | South Alabama hits the road for the second consecutive week, this week facing its first East Division school in Georgia Southern on Saturday.
The game is set for a 4 pm (ET)/3 pm (CT) kick from Allen E. Paulson Stadium in Statesboro (Ga.) and will be shown on ESPN+. The meeting is the ninth all-time between the two schools with Georgia Southern holding a 7-1 advantage, however, the Jags won the last meeting in Mobile in 2021.
The two teams are a pair of the highest scoring teams in the Sun Belt Conference entering Saturday with South Alabama (6-2, 3-1 Sun Belt) averaging 31.6 points per game, while Georgia Southern (5-3, 2-2 Sun Belt) is averaging 36.8 points per game. The Jags defense, who gives up just 17.6 points per game and is ranked in the top 20, will have to deal with a Georgia Southern offense that ranks in the top 10 in several statistical categories, including fourth nationally in passing offense. Meanwhile, the Jags ranked fourth nationally in both rushing defense and passing defense.
Offensively, South Alabama has scored 30-plus points in six of its eight games this season and ranks in the top 50 in the nation in total offense. The Jags have set several career-highs and records along the way including a 163-yard, three touchdown performance from
La'Damian Webb this past week at Arkansas State which earned him Sun Belt Conference Offensive Player of the Week honors.

GAME NOTES
- Diego Guajardo continues to lead the NCAA in field goal percentage connecting on all 11 of his field goal attempts, including the game-winner as time expired against Louisiana on the road.
- Caullin Lacy currently ranks third in the nation in punt return touchdowns and ninth in punt returns at 12.4 yards per return. He is closing in on 1,000 career yards receiving, as he enters the game with 971 total yards through his career.
- Webb was named the Sun Belt Conference Offensive Player of the Week after his performance against Arkansas State, the second such award for the Jags after Lacy was named Special Teams Player of the Week back in week four.
- James Miller and Jamie Sheriff combined to record the first safety of the season for the Jags as the team combined for 11 tackles for loss against Arkansas State last week, while holding the Red Wolves to a Division I opponent low of -19 yards rushing for the game.
- Trey Kiser will wear the #5 jersey this week for the Jags.
- Yam Banks leads the team in interceptions and currently sits sixth in the nation in interceptions per game and total interceptions. As a team, the Jags have forced 16 total turnovers this fall.
