Jags close regular season at home against Old Dominion on Saturday

South Alabama will honor its Senior Class prior to kickoff

MOBILE, Ala. | South Alabama will celebrate the 2022 Senior Class prior to kick off on Saturday when it faces Old Dominion in the regular season finale at Hancock Whitney Stadium.

Kick is set for 11 am on ESPN+.

South Alabama (9-2, 6-1 Sun Belt) is currently tied atop the West Division standings with in-state foe Troy but will need some help to make it to the championship game. The Jags, celebrating their best season in their short FBS history, will need a win coupled with an Arkansas State win over Troy to clinch the West Division title with the latter playing Saturday afternoon.

The meeting on Saturday between South Alabama and Old Dominion (3-8, 2-5 Sun Belt) have never met with the Monarchs joining the Sun Belt Conference this season. Although the Monarchs come in with just three wins on the season, they have recorded victories over Virginia Tech and Coastal Carolina and lost a close game on the road to Virginia.

Meanwhile, South Alabama is on their longest winning streak under head coach Kane Wommack with four consecutive wins that started back on October 29 on the road at Arkansas State. On the season, the Jags have scored 30-plus points eight different times this season recording a 7-1 record in those games with the only loss coming on the road at UCLA, while their two losses have been by a combined five points.

South Alabama enters the final game of the regular season nationally ranked in several categories on both sides of the ball including fifth nationally against the run allowing just 87.0 yards per game and are 13th overall in total defense at just 296.1 yards per game. The Jags are currently 37th nationally in scoring offense at 32.4 points per game 37th in passing offense at 263.9 yards per game.
