NEW ORLEANS – South Alabama volleyball libero
Rachel Hickey was named the Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Week, as announced by the league office Tuesday.
Hickey led the Sun Belt Conference in digs per set (5.14) with 36 digs over seven sets in two conference wins over ULM last weekend. She recorded 11 digs in three sets in Friday's contest before finishing with a season-high 25 digs in a four-set victory on Saturday. Hickey also tied for third in the conference last week with 0.71 service aces per set.
Tuesday's announcement marked the first time in her career she has been named SBC Defensive Player of the Week, and marks the fourth time this season a Jaguar has earned league honors following
Hannah Maddux as Offensive Player of the Week (Sept. 20 & Sept. 27) and
Kailey Keeble as Setter of the Week (Sept. 6). Hickey is also the first Jaguar to earn Defensive Player of the Week since
Ashlyn Roberts in 2019.
