Game is first of back-to-back conference road games

MOBILE, Ala. | South Alabama looks to rebound this weekend hitting the road to Jonesboro (Ark.) for a key Sun Belt Conference game against Arkansas State.

The game kicks at 3 pm (CT) on ESPNU at Centennial Bank Stadium, with the weather calling for a 70 percent chance of rain throughout the game.

South Alabama (5-2, 2-1 Sun Belt) dropped its first conference game last week against Troy, leaving them two games behind in the win column of the division-leading Trojans. The Jags have lost their two games by a combined five points this season. South Alabama enters the week averaging 31.7 points per game, while allowing just 19.7. They will be facing an Arkansas State (2-6, 1-4 Sun Belt) team that averages 28.8 points per game but gives up 31.1 per game through its first eight games.

The Red Wolves lead the all-time series 6-4, however, South Alabama has won the last three meetings including the last meeting in Jonesboro back on Nov. 28, 2020 (38-31).

GAME NOTES
  • Diego Guajardo continues to lead the NCAA in field goal percentage connecting on all 11 of his field goal attempts, including the game-winner as time expired against Louisiana on the road.
  • Caullin Lacy currently ranks third in the nation in punt return touchdowns and eighth in punt returns at 12.7 yards per return, while fellow receiver Jalen Wayne moved into third place on the school's all-time list for receptions and is 35th in receptions per game.
  • Jack Brooks will wear the #5 jersey this week for the Jags, becoming the first specialist to get the honor this year.
  • Yam Banks leads the team in interceptions and currently sits sixth in the nation in interceptions per game and total interceptions. As a team, the Jags have forced 15 total turnovers this season.
