MOBILE, Ala. – South Alabama women's soccer defeated Southern Miss 8-1 Sunday at The Cage. The Jags had five different goal scorers and recorded a season high eight goals and 23 total points.
 
The Jags took a season tying 20 shots, with 13 of them on target.
 
Monique Gray got the scoring started in the ninth minute, scoring off a Danielle Fuentes assist. Nour Imane Addi was then fouled in the box and nailed her penalty kick to extend South's lead. Addi quickly found the back of the net again, with assist from Fuentes, to put the Jags on top 3 nil at the half.
 
The offense came out hot in the second half, scoring five goals. Fuentes found the net first in the second half, scoring in the 51^st minute. Morgan Cross then scored her second goal of the season to extend the Jag lead to 5-0.
 
Southern Miss cut into the lead in the 67^th minute, with Bernadett Stefan making it a 5-1 game.
 
Three straight goals from Jasmine Greene made it an 8-1 game and the Jags stay undefeated at home and in Sun Belt play.
 
Greene now leads the team in goals with 10.
 
Jag keeper Jaidy Gutierrez Campos had one save.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED

• Gray scored her eighth goal of the season in the 9^th minute off an assist from Danielle Fuentes to put South up 1-0.
• After Addi was fouled in the box, she nailed her PK to extend the Jag lead to 2-0.
• Addi found the back of the net again in the 20^th minute, scoring off a header from a cross from Fuentes.   
• Fuentes scored quickly in the second half (51^st minute), giving the Jags a 4-0 lead.
• Cross found the net soon after off an assist from defender Micaela Dusseault to make it a 5-0 game.
• Southern Miss scored in the 67^th minute off a free kick by Stefan.
• South quickly answered, with Greene scoring in the 70^th minute.
• Greene found the back of the net again in the 73^rd minute to make it a 7-1 game.
• Greene rounded out her hat trick in the 84^th minute, giving South the 8-1 win.

 
GAME NOTES

• South remains undefeated at home and in Sun Belt play.
• Greene's hat trick was the second for the Jags this season. Gray had one against McNeese State.
• Greene now leads the team in goals with 10 and a team high 22 points.
• Gracie Wilson returned to the lineup after missing the game against JMU.
• Gabrielle Gayle also returned to the pitch after missing three matches due to an injury.
• The team took a season tying 20 shots, with a season-high 13 on goal.
