MOBILE, Ala. – South Alabama starting centerback Gabrielle Gayle has earned a call up from the Jamaica Football Federation to the senior-level Jamaican national women's soccer team for June international friendly matches.

This was the first national recall for Gayle since joining the Jaguar soccer program in the fall of 2020.

The Jamaican defender will be the first Jag to represent her nation at South Alabama since Athanasia Moraitou was recalled twice during Fall of 2020 to play for the Greek National Team.

Gayle was listed on the provisional list by the JFF for a pair of fixtures with Nigeria and the United States Soccer 2021 Women's National Team. The first match, Nigeria, is scheduled for June 10 with the clash against the USWNT on the 13th. Both matches will take place at BBVA Stadium in Houston, Texas. The match against the United States will be televised nationally on Fox Sports 1 with kickoff scheduled for 9 p.m. CDT.

Prior to being named to the provisional list, the junior helped South soccer secure its second-ever NCAA tournament match victory and first outside The Cage. Gayle started all 24 matches USA played in her first year at South and notched an assist on Senior Day against App State on Oct. 18. The Spanish Town, Jamaica, native recorded the sixth-most minutes on the pitch this season – 1,995 – helping the Jags maintain eight clean sheets across the Fall and Spring. The junior notched a successful penalty during the shootout against Little Rock in the Sun Belt Tournament Quarterfinals en route to winning the Sun Belt Tournament championship.
