SOUTH MEN’S TENNIS SWEEPS LOUISIANA TO ADVANCE TO SBC SEMIFINALS

PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. –The University of South Alabama men's tennis team whipped up a swift 4-0 win over Louisiana at the Peachtree City Tennis Center. A decisive doubles point was followed by a string of three straight-set singles victories, with Clément Marzol serving up the clincher.

Julien Evrard and Sébastien Collard led the Jaguars in doubles play as they defeated Oriol Fillat Gimenez and Xandy Hammitt on court two. At the top spot, Loïc Cloes and Marzol dug out the doubles point for USA after beating Kacper Dworak and Ivailo Keremedchiev for a one-point advantage.

South claimed the first sets on all but two courts, with Evrard muscling his way throw a 6-2, 6-4 win over Keremedchiev on court one to sneak the Jags ahead 2-0. At the No. 4 spot, Collard cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Gonzalez to tug USA within one win of the team victory. With three courts still going, it all came down to Marzol to seal the deal with his 6-2, 6-2 clincher from court two.

THEY SAID IT
Head Coach Nick Brochu

- On today's performance: "Great day today. We played very well. We made sure that we didn't look past the first round because Lafayette is a good opponent and is better than the No. 6 seed. After beating them earlier in the season, we knew that if we took the lead, it was going to be difficult for them to come back. Our strategy was to have a really big start, and we did that.

-  On doubles: "Everything went according to plan. We went out there, and right of the back got three breaks in doubles on all three courts. In the end, it was just a matter of time before we closed it. Court two was on fire, so they closed it very quickly, and then at the end, it was between courts one and three. Anyone could have closed the doubles point, so that was a great feeling to have. We had a good performance as well by our No. 1 doubles. They are ranked in the nation's top 50, and Lafayette has a good No. 1 doubles team, who are also ranked No. 30 in the nation. The win was big for Loïc [Cloes] and Clem [Marzol]. Their first goal is the Championship, and their second goal is to get higher and higher in the rankings."

- On singles: "Winning four first sets was a great feeling, so we felt from the beginning to the end that we were in control, and that was great. We had the momentum, and we just kept going. One of the highlights of today was Seb [Collard]. He was very vocal and let everyone know every time he broke his opponent. He was cheering, loud and energetic. He was a good leader today, and he was able to give us another point very quickly after taking down his opponent. I felt that everyone was focused and that anyone could have closed the match today, and that's a great feeling going into the next round.

"Tomorrow, we play Troy, and we're going to have to play solid tennis. We just have to play our game, and once again, the doubles point is big going into singles, so we must focus on that."
