QUOTESÂ Â Â
Head Coach Mark CalviÂ
- On the pitching:Â
"We have had good pitching all year long. They (pitchers) have given us a chance to win in 85 percent of our games, and that's all you can ask for. Troy is a very good offense with some very good and experienced hitters. We got nine out of nine leadoff outs today, and that's huge. When you get nine leadoff outs and force them to get something going with one out, it makes it tough on an offense. I'm really proud of our effort. I thought (Matt) Boswell was outstanding, and Jackson Boyd in behind him and (Tyler) Samaniego did what he has done all year long and that's put out a fire. Boswell was great for us."
- On making the pitching change in the sixth inning:
"He (Boswell) went out and was 90 to 92 (mph), but there was some 85 and 86 in there the inning before; hitters let you know what kind of stuff you have, and he was no-hitting them. But you could see his velocity go down a little bit and I could see him start missing arm side with his changeup. I think it's about knowing your personnel. I'm sure Matt wanted to stay in there, but that was the reason. Guys will give you some signs, and you have to know your guys. I learned a long time ago from Coach (Ray) Tanner at South Carolina that when you have a good bullpen, the only mistake you can make is to go to them too late. When I have good guys in the bullpen, I will never be guilty of going to them too late. So I went to them and it might have been a little too early, but I would rather have a good guy out there than wait too late."
