MOBILE, Ala. – Pre Stanley's shot as time expired on Saturday lifted Appalachian State to a 58-56 Sun Belt Conference women's basketball win over the University of South Alabama at the Mitchell Center.

Those were the last of Stanley's team-best 17 points, and she also paced the Mountaineers (11-11, 8-8 Sun Belt) with eight rebounds.  Janay Sanders scored 14 points while Michaela Porter added 13 and seven rebounds as well.

Savannah Jones led the Jaguars (12-10, 9-7 SBC) with a game-high 19 points and 10 rebounds, with Antoinette Lewis just missing a double-double after posting nine points and 11 boards and Jaylen Mallard contributing 12 and five, respectively.

NOTES
-It was the second time this season that the two teams split a weekend series.
-This was the third of those four contests to be decided by five points or less, with the Jags winning two of those match-ups.
-It was just the second occasion this season that South has fallen when allowing 59 or fewer points, with the Jaguars now posting a 7-2 mark in such contests.
-After limiting the Mountaineers to just 3-of-18 shooting from beyond the three-point arc, it was the fifth time this year that the opposition has failed to shoot 20 percent or better from long distance.
-Jones recorded her third double-double in the last five outings, while it was the fourth occasion during that span that she has paced the Jags in scoring.
-With the effort, she passed Phyllis Kelly (1993-96) to move into seventh place on the school's all-time scoring list as she now has 1,463 points in the last four-plus seasons.
-It was Lewis' 50th career game with a double-figure rebounding total.
-She ended the weekend fourth on South's career records list with 1,512 points, while with 218 blocked shots Lewis also climbed into the top five all-time in the category in the history of the Sun Belt Conference.
-Mallard extended her streak to four outings in a row with 10-plus points after scoring in double figures on three occasions all year entering the final month of the regular season.
-Mahogany Vaught has been credited with four or more assists in five of the last six games after accounting for four of the Jaguars' nine on the day.

THEY SAID IT
Head coach Terry Fowler
Opening statement: "It was a really good ball game from both teams.  It's disappointing that we weren't able to come out on top, especially on Senior Day.  I think over our last three games we've been playing better, we just have to take this one moving forward as we go into next week and then the conference tournament."
On the back-and-forth nature of the game: "We didn't get off to a good start, but then I thought we picked up our pace in the second quarter.  In the third quarter our zone defense really gave them some problems, then they got the rhythm of that so we went back to man.  Both teams made plays when they needed to at the end, the team with the last shot was able to win."
On moving ahead: "I think we've played better our last three ball games, we're starting to get our rhythm, what we're looking for and what we want to do.  We just have to carry that forward, looking to next week we have to take care of business."

Redshirt senior guard Savannah Jones
On her shot to tie the game late in the fourth quarter: "I didn't think about it, I just let it go and trust the work I put in and my coaches trusted me with the ball in my hands at that moment.  I trusted myself and I ended up making the shot."
On bouncing back from her performance against the Mountaineers on Friday: "Today I just played basketball and I didn't think.  Yesterday my shots were off and I was thinking too much when I let the ball go, thinking about my previous misses.  Today I didn't worry about my misses and just continued to shoot the ball and play with the flow and it worked out for me."
On the mood in the team's locker room: "We're going to come in to these next games with a chip on our shoulder and just continue to grow, take this game and learn from it."

Up next: The Jags close out the regular season with a pair of contests at Georgia State, with the first scheduled to tip off at 5 p.m. (CST) on Friday in Atlanta.
