THEY SAID IT
Head Coach Terry Fowler
-Opening statement: "The first quarter was slow, Faulkner was doing everything that we had told our team that they would do. We had to really guard the ball one-on-one and not let them beat us so that we would have to help and get into rotations, and that's exactly what happened and they were knocking down threes. I thought late in the quarter our defense picked up, we made some substitutions and really got up into them and guarded the basketball better. We made every shot hard, we had three shot clock violations in one of those quarters and that set the tone. On the offensive end, early on we knew they were going to pack it in so we told our players they were going to be open but that we couldn't take the first open shot; I thought there were too many one-pass shots. The answer was to share the ball, if you go and look at the stats we had 24 assists on 33 made field goals. I thought that was the difference in the ball game, our defensive intensity and our ability to share the basketball and of course make shots."
-On the importance of taking the lead at the end of the first quarter: "That was huge. It was right at the buzzer, that energy when the bench came running out on the floor with we were able to feed off of to start the second quarter, it was our ball and we were able to go get a basket right then as well so it turned into a five-point play."
-On the team's upcoming schedule: "Playing in that [Georgia State] tournament and following up with a day in between before the Georgia game will be similar to the [Sun Belt] conference tournament, we want to put the team in those kinds of situations to prepare them for what's coming down the pike as we get into conference play. It's going to be a tough tournament with Charleston Southern and Tulsa, we have the Bulldogs on Tuesday and then we come back and after the Christmas break it's App State and Coastal [Carolina]. The good news is those last games are at home, we're looking forward to that, but conference play is going to be tough throughout the season."
Freshman G Jordan Rosier
-On Tuesday's game: "That win felt so good. We had a meeting yesterday and talked about what we want to do as a team and find our identity. We had been on a stretch where we had lost a few games so we just wanted to come out today and have a great win, and I feel like we did that."
-On the key to her performance against Faulkner: "My confidence. Before the game I was talking to myself and saying when I got in the game I was going to do great, I was going to play hard and the team would share the ball. We really shared the ball today and I feed off of my teammates' energy, that led into what I produced today."
-On what was said at the first timeout called by Coach Fowler: "In that timeout Coach Fowler really emphasized sharing the ball. In the first quarter we had some good shots, but there were even better shots that we could've taken. After the timeout we really emphasized that and looked for not good shots but great shots, and that's what led to us winning the game."
