TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – After receiving a bye in the opening qualifying round, South Alabama women's tennis' Yurie Takanishi won in straight sets Thursday to advance to the round of 16 at the ITA Southern Regional held at the University of Alabama Tennis Stadium.
Caraline Scheufler also won in three sets in the qualifying round of 64. Scheufler dropped the first set, but bounced back with a 6-4 win in set two and then won the tiebreaker over Tulane's Charlotte Russell.

- On today's performance: "We had a solid day against some tough opponents. Definitely some bigger blocks of quality play compared to our previous tournament. I think we are 10-15 minutes away from turning a solid day into a great day. Hopefully we are mature enough to not let a couple of 10 point tiebreak losses overshadow the gains we made today. It is very exciting to see the girls trending in the right direction."
