JAG WOMEN’S BASKETBALL DROPS LOW-SCORING AFFAIR TO PANTHERS

MOBILE, Ala. – Hannah Sadler scored 12 points and Taylor Hosendove recorded a double-double Thursday to help lift Georgia State to a 47-41 Sun Belt Conference women's basketball win over the University of South Alabama at the Mitchell Center.

Sadler's three-pointer with just under six minutes to go put the Panthers (7-5, 3-2 Sun Belt) in front for good as she would score seven points in the final quarter.  Hosendove added 10 points as well as a game-high 11 rebounds.

Jayla Morrow led the Jaguars (8-7, 5-4 SBC) with 12 points on 5-of-9 shooting, while Antoinette Lewis and Jaylen Mallard posted nine points each; the former grabbed 10 rebounds and the latter added eight boards as well.

NOTES
-The loss ended USA's six-game win streak in the series.
-It was the first time the Jaguars used a starting lineup that featured Mallard, Lewis, Morrow, Mahogany Vaught and Savannah Jones this season.
-The Jags' point total and field-goal percentage were their lowest figures of the year.
-Morrow posted her sixth game this season with 10 or more points, the same number of double-figure contests that she recorded in 81 appearances the last three years combined.
-This was the eighth straight outing that Lewis has led the Jaguars in rebounds, and the eighth occasion this season that the senior has finished with 10 or more boards in a game.
-Mallard's rebounding total matched the most she has recorded in Sun Belt play — she also had eight against Georgia Southern and Coastal Carolina the first two weekends of the month — and she added a career-best three assists to lead USA in the category as well.
-Jadona Davis also had a career high after finishing with a team-leading three blocks for the Jaguars.
-Casey Ferguson has connected on a three-pointer in three straight games, as her 12 so far this season are twice as many as she hit the previous three years combined.

THEY SAID IT
Head coach Terry Fowler
On the team's performance: "Georgia State got off to a 7-0 start, but we battled our way to get back into the ball game.  Down six at halftime it was nip-and-tuck, going into the fourth quarter we wanted to see if we could go on a run and get up more than four or five points.  We ended up hitting three to take the lead and I felt really good and that we could get some momentum there.  Then we turned it over at they were able to get an easy bucket to put themselves back in the lead. Shots just weren't falling for us.  We're playing really good defense right now — I'm pleased with that — we need to have more shots fall."
On taking the lead in the third quarter: "We talked about it at halftime how the third quarter has been a sticking point for us.  I thought we got the ball inside and were a little more aggressive in the third quarter.  We were focused on getting it inside and then playing from there, whether it was Jadona and Antoinette going to the basket or fanning it back out.  That's how we were playing, and we got to continue that tomorrow."
On returning to play on Friday: "We don't have to wait a day in between because we get to come back tomorrow and put the uniform on and play again.  We're trying to make sure the players understand they have a great opportunity to get out there and play.  We've been fortunate that we haven't been shut down all year, the game can be taken away at any moment.  Let's go out and find the joy of playing a game of basketball, and the results will take care of themselves."

Senior guard Jayla Morrow
On the game: "We started off slow and we could never pick it up, and that's what we talked about at halftime.  We had a hard time keeping up our energy, but tonight it wasn't there as a collective group."
On playing again Friday afternoon: "Losing is a better lesson because it forces you to pay more attention to the game and learn from the mistakes.  We go over it and watch the film and learn from it, so we can go out there and do better.  The great thing about it is we get to do it again tomorrow."

Up next: USA and Georgia State will play the second of two games in two days at the Mitchell Center beginning at 4 p.m. (CST) on Friday.
