NEW ORLEANS – University of South Alabama quarterback Desmond Trotter recorded a pair of career-high totals in his season debut last week, and as a result The Manning Award — sponsored by the Allstate Sugar Bowl — has in-cluded the sophomore among the eight quarterbacks named as the organization's "Stars of the Week."

College football fans can now go to the Allstate Sugar Bowl Facebook page and vote for the best performance from this past weekend, with the top vote-getter when voting closes on Thursday at 11 a.m. (CDT) announced as the Manning Award Quarterback of the Week.

Trotter threw for 299 yards and a pair of scores, adding 41 yards rushing to compile 340 yards of total offense and help lead the Jaguars to a 32-21 win at Southern Mississippi Thursday night.  His 73-yard completion to Jalen Tolbert on the third play of the game gave South the lead for good, and he found the junior wide receiver again for a 31-yard touchdown to cap the Jags' opening possession of the second half and extend USA's advantage to double fig-ures.  He connected on four passes for gains of 30-plus yards in the contest while averaging nearly 19 yards per completion.

In addition to posting career-high passing and total yardage figures, Trotter surpassed 1,000 yards passing in his career while becoming the first Jaguar quarterback to throw for 200-plus yards in three consecutive games since Evan Orth did so from Sept. 15-29, 2018.

Trotter and the Jags are set to play host to Tulane Saturday at 6:30 p.m. on ESPN2 in the first-ever game at the new Hancock Whitney Stadium.
