NEARLY 60 STUDENT-ATHLETES CELEBRATE VIRTUAL GRADUATION FROM SOUTH ALABAMA

MOBILE, Ala. – A total of 56 University of South Alabama student-athletes received their undergraduate degrees and were honored as part of the school's virtual graduation ceremony Saturday following the conclusion of the spring semester.

Among that group were the Jaguar Female and Male Student-Athletes of the Year — Briana Morris (soccer) and Josh Ajayi (men's basketball) — along with the previous winner of the Female Award Emilie Berge (women's track and field), a three-time All-American and an individual Sun Belt Conference champion on five occasions.  Nine other individuals who picked up all-Sun Belt honors throughout their careers at South were recognized as well, including: Connor Allred (men's track and field), Riley Cole (football), Iva Durdanovic and Kelley Hartman (volleyball), Savannah Jones and Shaforia Kines (women's basketball), Rasmus Karlsson (men's golf), Trhae Mitchell (men's basketball) and Justice Stanford (soccer).

Laurie Graves and Camryn Lyster also received degrees after helping the Jag soccer team win both the Sun Belt regular season and tournament titles while advancing to the NCAA Tournament last fall, with Lauren Hartman, Ashlyn Roberts and Morgan Stalcup a part of South's volleyball program that finished 20-11 in 2019.  Josh Ayeni, Don Coleman, Herb McGee and Kevin Morris helped the Jaguar men's basketball team to its first 20-win season since 2008-09 after claiming its final eight games last season.  Samuel Serrano was part of USA's men's tennis team that in the spring of 2019 won the Sun Belt Tournament and its first-round match at the NCAA Tournament on the way to a 19-7 final record, while Leslie Soto helped the women's tennis squad accomplish all reach the NCAA Tournament while finishing with a 22-5 mark.

A group of 15 members of the Jag football program graduated in the spring including Roy Albritton, Travis Bird, Jalin Buie, Max Charite, Zac Crosby, Nick Fields, Sterrling Fisher, Jake Harwell, Shawn Jennings, Taji Stewart, Khameron Taylor, David Webb, Reggie Williamson, Jay Woods and Andrew Zink.  Six individuals from the baseball team — Andy Arguelles, Noah Michael, Drake Nightengale, Michael Sandle, Hunter Stokes and Caleb Yarborough — earned degrees, with softball student-athletes Katelyn Gruich, Abby Krzywiecki, Morgan Lutticken and Alexis Reid, and women's track and field members Elizabeth Bolden, Sheldonna Chappell, Elysa Griffin, Esherika Hawkins and Savannah Howie honored as well.

Spencer Arnold (men's golf), Keith Davis (men's track and field) and Emerald Hart (women's basketball) completed their studies in the spring also, as 12 of the department's 13 sport programs had at least one individual receive a degree.  Also graduating were cheerleaders Casey Tomberlin and Samantha Wearren and Jordan McKervey, a member of the Prowlers dance team.
