MOBILE, Ala. – The University of South Alabama football program completed its 2020 recruiting class with the addition of three individuals who signed National Letters-of-Intent or grants-in-aid on Wednesday.
Jaguar head coach Steve Campbell announced that a trio of three-star prospects — Nate Howard, Trent Tyre and Keyshawn Woodyard — will join the program in the fall, bringing the total to 22 individuals in the group.
"I'm very excited about the guys we were able to add today. Â We really focused hard on defense in the early signing period and recruited some guys we brought here in January who we believe are definitely going to be able to come in and help," said Campbell. Â "We had a couple of spots left and we wanted to swing the focus back over to offense, I feel like we really helped ourselves. Â I'm very excited about how we were able to upgrade at the tight end position, add a very good offensive lineman with great size and strength, and a big-time playmaker."
Tyre will have two years of eligibility remaining after playing the last two seasons at Copiah-Lincoln C.C. Â Last fall he caught five passes for 38 yards in four contests before suffering an injury that cut short his sophomore campaign, while as a freshman the tight end had six receptions for 56 yards as the Wolves qualified for the Mississippi Association of Community & Junior Colleges playoffs.
Howard and Woodyard both come to South with four years of eligibility. Â Howard helped Mary Parsons High to three straight region titles, starting his final 26 appearances on the offensive line for the program while earning all-region accolades both as a sophomore and a senior; his efforts helped the Bulldogs win 40 games his four seasons on the varsity. Â Woodyard helped UMS-Wright Preparatory School go 50-5 in his four seasons on the varsity including 33 straight wins as the Bulldogs won three consecutive state 4A championships. Â The wide receiver was first-team all-state and all-region as a senior after catching 50 passes for 675 yards and 10 touchdowns, and he posted 43 receptions for 658 yards and 12 scores the previous year to be named second-team all-state and all-region.
