BOONE, N.C. – Pre Stanley scored 19 points while both Lainey Gosnell and Bayley Plummer recorded double-doubles Thursday to lift Appalachian State to a 71-59 Sun Belt Conference women's basketball win over the University of South Alabama at the Holmes Center.

Both Savannah Jones and Shaforia Kines shared game-high scoring honors with Stanley after posting 19 points apiece for the Jaguars (12-12, 7-5 SBC), who saw a two-game win streak come to an end.  Antoinette Lewis added 10 rebounds for South as well.

THEY SAID IT
Head coach Terry Fowler
Opening statement: "We fought, but again it comes down to that first quarter.  At the start of the third quarter they were able to extend their lead instead of us being able to cut it [the deficit] from six to four to two [points] and having a ball game from there.  But we kept fighting and believing we had a chance."
On rebounding: "That's one of the reasons we lost today.  It was just the fact that they kept getting possessions, I don't think they really did a lot of damage with second-chance points but those were possessions that were taken away from us and let them eat the clock up to shorten the game."
On playing again on Saturday: "It's about bouncing back, let's see if we can do it on the road on Saturday against a really good Coastal Carolina team and go from there."

Up next: USA concludes a three-game road swing with a 1 p.m. (CST) tip-off at Coastal Carolina on Saturday.
