MOBILE, Ala. – The University of South Alabama's Jordan Plunkett was the only player in the field to finish at even par as he claimed the College TourX Port City Championship last weekend.
The junior from Sterrett, Ala., recorded a 2-under-par 70 in the second round on Friday before closing with an even-par 72 the following day to finish two strokes ahead of Tennessee Tech's Chance Taylor.
"It was really fun, I enjoyed every minute of it," said Plunkett. "There was a lot of pressure in the beginning [of the final round], we fought until the 18th hole. I felt like I had a little bit of a home-course advantage knowing how to read my putts and where the green was going."
Playing at the par-72, 7,116-yard Magnolia Grove Crossings Golf Course, Plunkett had three birdies in a four-hole stretch after making the turn in the opening round. He carded birdies at the sixth and ninth holes to record a 34 on the front side of the course in Friday's second round, finishing the day with five in all, while he sealed the victory with three of his five birdies on the final day of play coming on the back nine.
Fellow Jaguars Mathias Lorentzen, Kyle Robinson and Connor Reid also participated in the event, with the Lorentzen leading the group after finishing third in the field with a three-round 221 total. Robinson tied for 11th place while Reid ended up in a tie for 17th.
