NOTES
-This was the Green Wave's first visit to the Mitchell Center since Dec. 1, 2009.
-The two teams split a home-and-home series as the Jags won last year's match-up in New Orleans.
-South still maintains a 13-9 advantage over Tulane in the all-time series.
-The Jaguars were credited with 10 steals in the contest, marking the first time they have recorded a double-digit theft total in back-to-back outings since the first two contests of the 2017-18 campaign.
-Lowe finished with career-high totals in both points and three-point field goals.
-It's the first time she has scored in double figures since recording 12 points at Southern Mississippi on Dec. 15 a year ago, and the fifth occasion that she has posted 10-plus points in her career.
-Lewis finished with a double-double against the Green Wave for the second time in as many seasons, her fourth in a row dating back to the start of the Sun Belt Conference Tournament last March.
-After pulling down a season-high rebounding total, the senior moved up three places on the school's all-time list in the category as she now has 882 in her career.
-Vaught returned after missing South's season-opening win over Mobile to record career highs in both scoring and steals (four).
-The Jags were playing without Savannah Jones — who was injured in practice on Sunday — and Jala Buster, who was dismissed from the team for failing to meet program standards.
THEY SAID IT
Head coach Terry Fowler
Opening statement: "I thought our team came out and really fought hard and got off to a good start. We weathered the storm a little bit, and were able to settle in and play. I thought our post players getting in foul trouble in the first half gave us a disadvantage there, but we were able to respond and got really good play from the guards. The first-half turnovers were the difference in the ballgame; we had 12 in the first half and they had 17 points off of those. There was a stretch in the second half when they went on a run, and we just couldn't stop the bleeding. But we fought to the end and gave ourselves every chance to win the ballgame. I am proud of this group, they did a great job today. We definitely wanted the win, but this is something we can build on."
On the lineup: "We had different combinations of lineups, and players stepped up. It is a next-player mentality and they rose to the occasion, we just came up a little short."
On Devyn Lowe's performance: "We needed Devyn, and that's what good players do — when you need them the most, they rise to the occasion and she was able to do that. When we had the back-to-back timeouts, it gave her time to get her legs back and she came back out and had a good showing after that. I am just pleased with what she was able to do today."
Redshirt junior G Devyn Lowe
On the loss: "We fought and that's the biggest thing we can take away; we stuck together and didn't fall apart, and that's a big thing Coach Fowler has been on us about all season. We are just making sure we stay together. We fought for the whole game, and at the end of the day these losses hurt but we take a lot from them."
On her performance: "I felt like I finally found my shot. My teammates were hitting me, and my coaches have been putting in extra shots with me. My teammates found me and at the end of the day they [shots] fell."
Up next: The Jags continue their four-game homestand to begin the season with a 7 p.m. (CST) tip against Nicholls on Saturday.
