QUOTES
Head Coach Alexis Meeks-Rydell
- On the loss:
"Set two we obviously won; Coastal beat themselves a little bit, but our team did what we've been asking them to do as far as playing the right defense, being aggressive and communicating with each other. There wasn't any hesitation during that set, and you could just tell we were working around and playing together. I told them before the match that anything we did today, we were going to do together. I saw a lot times yesterday when we were struggling was because individuals weren't doing their job, and because of that we were individually trying to make up for each other. That was my goal going into today, but we did that super well in set two and did it horribly in the other three sets. If there is one thing about this team that I love is that it's not for a lack of working hard. We never have points, sets or matches where we just don't try. Regardless of what the score says, I never feel that way. But it is understanding that working hard isn't enough; we have to be smarter and know when and when not to be aggressive or follow the game plan better. We have to do little things like that better if we want to have a chance at being successful against these better teams in our conference."
- On next week:
"I am just looking for the bounce back. We just won three matches and lost three matches, we have to get out of that pendulum swing toward the end of the season here. I think any coach would say you want to be peaking at the end of the season, so I want to see us moving forward for these next couple of weeks, but especially our last weekend at home, and get back on track. If we lose a set, but competed, followed the game plan, the trust was there and you did everything right, then it is what it is. We can fix that. This pendulum swing we are on right now is frustrating from a coaching standpoint on how to fix that. And I know the team is frustrated too, because they want to identify it as well. I just want to see the bounce back of what we could have done better this weekend with a lot of the controllables to fix that and make sure that doesn't happen this next week."
