QUOTES
Head Coach Alexis Meeks-Rydell
- On the matches:
"I feel like we played better this evening than we did this morning. They (Coastal Carolina) are a great program; we talked about that all week leading up to this. We wanted the team to have realistic expectations of what it was going to look like, and one of the biggest things we told them is how level-headed and controlled Coastal is as a program. In the times of crucial moments or strings of points, we couldn't afford to make dumb errors. There is a time and place to risk and take a big rip or go for the ace. I feel like all of our mistakes came tonight on points we either needed to turn the momentum or we had the momentum and then they kind of took it away from us from there. I think a little bit of it is inexperience. A lot of those came from our underclassmen and that's just going to take time, but I also think it's just learning and learning each other. We are jelling much better than we were at the beginning of the season, it's just something that is going to take time. Besides the second set this morning, we competed every single set. We definitely played better tonight than we did this morning, so hopefully that trend continues into tomorrow. We know what we have to work on. We just talked to the team in the locker room about understanding where this program has been in the past, years ago, and we're still building and working toward a certain expectation of what we want South Alabama volleyball to look like – we're right there. There are things we have to work on, and there is always things to improve on."
- On improvements tomorrow:
"We did a better job earlier today of controlling their hitters a little bit, whereas tonight their hitters got away with a little more than we wanted them to, so we need to fix that for tomorrow. We just need better execution on the game plan, and trust each other. We had a lot of little errors on defense that I don't think we necessarily should have had. But definitely tomorrow, we are looking for better execution and communication."
