MOBILE, Ala. – University of South Alabama running back Tra Minter has been named an honorable mention All-American by Phil Steele Publications.

Last month, Minter was recognized by Sun Belt Conference coaches and media members as a first-team all-league selection as an all-purpose back.

In his final season as a Jag, Minter set school season records with 1,057 rushing yards — making him the first player in South's history to surpass the 1,000-yard mark — and 1,943 all-purpose yards as he currently ranks first in the league and second in the country with 161.92 all-purpose yards per contest.  

The 5-foot-9 running back from Ellaville, Ga., also ranks sixth in the Sun Belt in rushing yards per game and ninth with an average of 21.2 yards per kickoff return, while he caught 32 passes for 209 yards out of the backfield.  Minter recorded 200 or more all-purpose yards on four occasions during the 2019 season.

Minter was selected preseason all-Sun Belt as a kick returner (first-team), punt returner (second-team) and running back (fourth-team) by the publication, after earning postseason second-team all-league accolades as a returner by organization last fall.

With the All-American selection, Minter becomes just the second member of the program to receive the honor, joining former Jag placekicker Jordan Means who received honorable mention honors during the 2011 season from Beyond Sports College Network.
