2018-19 Sun Belt Conference Commissioner's List and Academic Honor Roll

NEW ORLEANS – More than 150 University of South Alabama student-athletes were honored for their performance in the classroom during the 2018-19 academic year when the Sun Belt Conference announced on Thursday its annual awards.

With 76 individuals named to the Commissioner's List — which recognizes those with a cumulative grade-point average of 3.50 or higher in the fall and spring semesters — and another 75 on the Academic Honor Roll (including those whose GPA ranged between 3.00-3.49), it marked the sixth straight year that Jaguar Athletics has had over 150 student-athletes feted.

"We are proud of these student-athletes who performed extremely well during the 2018-19 academic year," said Jason Kelly, Associate Athletic Director for Athletic Academic Services at South Alabama.  "Our coaches continue to recruit students who not only excel at the highest level in competition but also in the classroom."

All 17 Jag sport programs contributed multiple members to the total, led by the women's track and field/cross country squad with 24 honored individuals.  Both the football and men's track and field/cross country teams had 23 student-athletes recognized, while other programs with double-figure totals included baseball (17), softball (15) and soccer (14).

All six members of the women's golf program posted a GPA of 3.0 or better last year, and women's tennis had more than half its roster honored with five of eight student-athletes making the lists as both teams also claimed Sun Belt championships while earning NCAA Regional berths in the spring.  The men's golf squad saw eight of nine individuals receive recognition, with volleyball adding six and women's basketball supplying five student-athletes to the total while men's tennis and men's basketball had three and two squad members qualify, respectively.
