Opening Kick
• The Jaguars are on the road for the first time since the opening weekend of the season when they visit UAB.
• It will also be the final non-conference contest of 2019 for the Jags.
• This is the first game in a home-and-home agreement between the two programs, with the Blazers set to visit Mobile on Sept. 26 next fall.
• South has a 5-0 record all-time against non-league in-state opponents, although this will mark the first time that the Jaguars have played another state school on the road outside of Sun Belt Conference action.
• USA is in the middle of a five-year span in which it will face at least one Conference USA opponent each season; the Jags fell to Louisiana Tech during both the 2017 and '18 campaigns, and are also scheduled to begin a home-and-home series with Southern Mississippi in 2020.

South Alabama/UAB Ties
• Current Blazer head coach Bill Clark was the Jaguars' first-ever defensive coordinator, holding the position the program's first four seasons of competition before becoming the head coach at Jacksonville State.
• UAB assistant coaches Bryant Vincent (2011-13, '15-17) and Richard Owens (2015-17) also were full-time assistants at South under former head coach Joey Jones.
• Blazer assistant Jay Simpson was a letterwinning cornerback for the Jags the program's first two years, racking up 56 total tackles, four interceptions and an additional seven passes broken up while helping the team go 17-0.
• After UAB shut down the program in December 2014 eight individuals transferred to South the following spring including a trio — TE Gerald Everett, S Kalen Jackson and WR Josh Magee — who lettered on the Jaguars' 2016 team that earned an invitation to the NOVA Home Loans Arizona Bowl.
• USA senior DL Rocel McWilliams and Blazer redshirt freshman DT Fish McWilliams are cousins who both prepped at West Florida Tech High in Pensacola.

Notes On Campbell's Coaching/Playing Career
• Campbell's 163-64 mark as a head coach includes going 33-15 over four years at Central Arkansas from 2014-17, where he guided the Bears to back-to-back NCAA Football Championship Subdivision playoff appearances before taking over at South Alabama.
• He has led two programs to national championships — Delta (Miss.) State in 2000 at the NCAA Division II level and Mississippi Gulf Coast C.C. to the 2007 National Junior College Athletic Association crown.
• In 20 seasons no team coached by Campbell finished below .500 prior to the 2018 campaign.
• Campbell has coached on the staffs of Pat Dye (Auburn graduate assistant, 1988-89) and Jackie Sherrill (Mississippi State assistant, 2003).
• Campbell and Jaguar coordinators Kenny Edenfield and Greg Stewart were teammates on Troy's 1987 NCAA Division II national championship squad.

Baker Moves Up Behind Big Play
Kawaan Baker accounted for the Jaguars' lone touchdown in the Memphis contest with a 74-yard catch in the fourth quarter that was the longest of his career — as well as the biggest gain from scrimmage for South this fall — while tying the sixth-longest pass play in school history.  As a result of the reception, the junior wide receiver moved into a tie for fifth place with Everett (currently with the Los Angeles Rams) with 16 career touchdowns, and he also entered the top 10 on the school's all-time list as he has now 780 yards receiving over the last two-plus seasons.  Baker has paced the Jags in receiving yards in all three contests thus far this year.

Fast Start For Safety
Sophomore S Keith Gallmon accounted for the team's first takeaway against the Tigers with a second-quarter interception — his first since joining the program last season — while going on to end the day with a career-best eight stops.  After making a pair of tackles in 11 appearances in 2018, Gallmon stands fourth on the squad with 12 through the team's first three outings this year, while he is one of three individuals on the Jag defense with a hand in multiple takeaways as he also recovered a fumble in the opener at Nebraska.

A.J. Doing O.K.
Fellow sophomore A.J. DeShazor is one of the other two members of the unit to account for two forced turnovers this fall after recovering a fumble he ran back 30 yards in the final quarter of the Memphis game.  In addition to posting a season-high six tackles, the linebacker has both South's longest fumble and interception returns.

Safety Making Stops For Loss
DJ Daniels matched Gallmon with a career-best eight stops in the match-up with the Tigers, marking the first time in his three-plus seasons with the program he has been credited with a game-high total in the category.  One of those tackles was behind the line of scrimmage as the senior has now posted 2½ in the Jags' first three contests this fall after making a pair of tackles for loss in his first 32 appearances at South.

Targeting Tolbert
WR Jalen Tolbert did not have a game with more than one catch last fall as a redshirt freshman, but he's now accomplished the feat twice in South's first three outings of the year after pacing all players with a career-best four in the UofM contest.  The performance marked the first time in 2019 that a Jaguar wideout has led the squad in receptions in a game.

Wilson Working
Jared Wilson led the team's running backs with 28 yards on 10 attempts last time out, marking the second week in a row that he has recorded 10 or more carries as he continues to stand second on the team with 130 rushing yards.  That was the first time since Xavier Johnson turned the trick against Troy and Louisiana on Oct. 24 and Nov. 1, 2014, that a freshman has logged 10-plus rushes in consecutive contests.

End Results
The duo of McWilliams and Jeffery Whatley led the Jags up front against the Tigers, combining to record nine total tackles including three for loss.  The former matched a career high last set at Georgia State on Oct. 26, 2017, after posting five tackles — one more than his two-game figure entering play — while the latter has now made multiple stops in the backfield in consecutive outings as he finished the day with 1½.  After making at least one tackle for loss in each of South's first three games Whatley is in the top 10 in the SBC in the category.
