THIS WEEKEND'S GAMES
A win or draw against UAB Friday would give South Alabama an unbeaten record after three games for the first time since 2015.
The Jaguars' nine goals Sunday vs. Jackson State is the program's most since putting up 11 vs. Alabama A&M in 2013
Briana Morris has recorded a point in each of her last four outings dating back to last season, and has scored a goal in three of her last four games.
Morris,
Chloe McGlade and
Moa Öhman all recorded their first career brace Sunday vs. Jackson State. Morris' five points were also a career high.
Morris has seven points, just two points shy of her career best set last year.
McGlade has a point in each of her first two career games. She assisted on the game-tying goal vs. Tennessee Tech and notched the game-winner on Sunday.
In her first career start,
Gracie Wilson had two assists vs. Jackson State. In the season opener, she put both of her shots on goal in 81 minutes of work.
Athanasia Moraitou also had a pair of assists — the first of her career — on Sunday.
The Jaguars had their streak of four consecutive Sun Belt titles and five straight NCAA Tournament appearances snapped last season. The program's five straight Sun Belt Tournament titles was the longest active run in Division I.
Justice Stanford ranked second in the league last season in goals against average (0.57) and save percentage (.860) in conference matches.
Stanford currently ranks first at USA in career shutouts (24), second in goals against average (0.93), third in save percentage (.796) and eighth in saves (214).
USA is 57-10-6 in all games against Sun Belt teams since the start of the 2013 season.
South Alabama and UAB have each won on the other's home field the last two times they have met. The Blazers scored with 2.9 seconds left in double overtime in 2014.
MOODIE'S QUOTES ON THIS WEEKEND'S GAMES
On officially starting the season: "We're very excited to play at home. We've had four very good games with all sorts of different challenges, which have been good preparation. Now we'll have two more fantastic teams coming in to our facility this weekend that are also coming off the back of a good start to the season."
On playing an in-state rival like UAB: "We compete a lot for the same players. The bottom line is, it's just a good game. The game we played last year was really tight and close, and drew a good crowd, even on a night with bad weather. It's a great game for all of the people in Alabama to be plugged in and watch because it pulls people in from all over the state. For us, it helps with so much more because we compete for the same players. It's good for our RPI and it's an opportunity for us to grow and learn."
On Briana Morris' recent play: "She's a senior now so she's way more equipped to handle the season a lot better. She's had a lot of frustrating years. Last year I felt like she could've scored way more than she did. The main problem there was, she didn't get the breaks to go her way. She's an active player that stays busy and is very dangerous. She will create chances in every game and she looks fantastic in front of goal coming off a good summer season in the WPSL."
