LIPSCOMB BLANKS SOCCER IN EXHIBITION

FOLEY, Ala. – The Lipscomb soccer team got an early goal then tacked on two late to defeat the University of South Alabama 3-0 in an exhibition contest Sunday afternoon at the Foley Sports Complex.

GAME FACTS
- Olivia Doak, the Bisons leading scorer last year with nine goals and 27 points, got her team on the board with a strike in the 18th minute
- A pair of freshmen accounted for Lipscomb's final two goals in the last 10 minutes of the contest
- Grace Oliver doubled LU's advantage in the 80th minute, and Molly Grant closed out the scoring three minutes later

THEY SAID IT
Head Coach Richard Moodie

Overall thoughts: "This time last year we were coming off a game we won 3-0 and we weren't really sure where we were at. Today we're off a 3-0 defeat but I feel much better now than where we were last year. There were some really good moments, everyone got to play, we got some important minutes from some freshmen and we had some new faces in the lineup playing together for the first time. The first 30 minutes, outside of the goal, we looked fantastic. I thought we controlled the game and controlled the tempo. We just look so much better right now. We're excited moving forward. It's obviously not the result we wanted, but everyone got to play and we're excited about that."

On the team playing together for the first time: "The hardest thing in a preseason game is you want to play everyone, so when you decide on your team come Aug. 22, you've given everyone a fair opportunity to play in front of you. Outside of practice, this is the best environment to see what we've got. We have a lot of new faces in the squad this year, but you can see an instant impact. They picked up on the tempo quickly and the heat is a factor for some of them, but there were a lot of good things happening."

On what's to come before the next exhibition: "We'll enjoy our first day off since the start of camp then we'll regroup. I think the most important thing with the scrimmages this year was to play against two very good teams. Lipscomb went to the NCAA Tournament and won their conference last year. Alabama had a tough non-conference schedule and did fantastically, and of course we saw them last year. It's about benchmarking ourselves against the best. For us it's not about the result, it's about the process."
