Ethan Wilson followed with a single before Michael Sandle lifted a 1-2 pitch from SLU left-hander Trey Shaffer over the left field wall for a two-run home run, his fifth of the year, for a 3-0 Jaguar advantage.
- USA extended its lead to 4-0 in the top of the third when Sandle lifted an 0-1 pitch from Shaffer over the left field wall to lead off the inning for his second home run of the game.
- Southeastern Louisiana (27-22) answered in the bottom of the fourth inning on a two-out RBI single down the left field line by Brennan Breaud to cut the Jaguar lead to 4-1.
- Â The Jags responded in the top of the sixth when Wells Davis hit the first pitch he saw from Lion right-hander Justin Simanek over the right field wall for a 5-1 USA lead.
- The Lions cut the Jaguar lead to 5-2 in the bottom of the sixth on a one-out RBI single through the right side of the infield by Nathan Pilutti. SLU loaded the bases with two outs later in the inning following a walk by Jonathan Parker, but Jaguar right-hander Noah Michael entered the game in relief of Joel Cheatwood and struck out Nick Ray to end the inning and preserve a three-run USA advantage.
- SLU cut the Jaguar lead to 5-4 in the bottom of the seventh inning on a one-out, two-run home run to left field by Preston Faulkner. SLU loaded the bases with one out for Breaud later in the inning, but Jaguar right-hander Nick DeSantis recorded a strikeout for the second out of the frame and induced an inning-ending flyout to right field off the bat of Parker to escape the jam and preserve a one-run Jaguar advantage.

Head Coach Mark Calvi
- On the win:
"Nick Lewis and Michael Sandle got us off to a good start, and we had some really good at-bats early on in the first inning and jumped on them (Southeastern Louisiana). Then it turned into a ballgame until the eighth (inning). Carter Perkins, who wasn't having a great night, got us started with that opposite-field double in the eighth. A lot went on that inning, but we had some really good at-bats – guys getting hits with men on (base) and productive outs. I thought Noah Michael coming in with a 2-0 count and getting the strikeout was huge; that kid was big in a crucial time. Caleb Yarborough was outstanding. Coming off of the surgery, you can see he has around 50 (pitches) and he wants to keep going but it kind of tails off. He gave us everything he had tonight. My plan was to go with him for three (innings), but he was so good in that third inning and I wanted him to finish off that fourth inning just for himself. A bad start here never works out well for us, but Caleb Yarborough did exactly what we needed him to do and then some against a good ballclub. And Nick DeSantis looked as good tonight as he has in the last couple of weeks. He came into the game in a tight spot, and made some big pitches. I am proud of all of these guys and their effort tonight."
