Head Coach Mark Calvi
- On Patrick McBride:
"I thought he was really good; he had his changeup going. The difference between (Patrick) McBride this year and last year is the trust factor; I trust him a lot more. He has earned that trust, it hasn't been given. He's been given some opportunities, and he has earned that trust. He earned the right to stay out there and work through that first inning with a hit by pitch and a couple of walks. It didn't feel good, but when you look out there at him – it's a different McBride, he's just off to a bad start and will get it together, and he did. He pitched to contact, had some swing-and-misses with his changeup and we played really good defense behind him. I thought he was fantastic after the first (inning). When it's not easy and a guy is still competing and working to find the mark with some of his pitches – that's a competitor and a guy you trust and believe in, not only as a coaching staff, but his team believed that he got off to a rocky start and he is competing and work his way through it, and that's what he did."
- On the offense:
"I thought the whole team did a nice job today. One through five (in the lineup) did a lot of damage today. I thought the big hit came in the seventh inning; App State never quits, and they have some good hitters on their club, and Reid (Powers) hit that two-out, two-run single which was very big. The thing that I was very impressed with was eight of those runs came with two outs. Our guys did a great job of extending the inning. Two-out hits break the other team; they help lift a team and help break the other team, and our guys did a lot of that. We played really good defense and got really strong pitching today from Patrick McBride. I'm just proud of the whole team today."
