Box Score

KEY MOMENT OF THE GAME
- Coastal's Stavi Augur's sixth-inning grand slam turned a one-run lead into a 6-1 advantage and provided enough runs for the Chanticleers as South Alabama's comeback attempt came up short.

STANDOUT PERFORMERS
- Cabral recorded her second-straight multi-hit effort as she was 2-for-3 with the three-run home run for the Jaguars.
- Savanna Mayo, Katelyn Gruich and Victoria each had a hit as well. Mayo had the lone other RBI for South, while Gruich and Ortiz both scored once.
- Courtney Dean reached in all four of her plate appearances as she had a hit and three walks, while also scoring twice.
- Augur and Natalie David each went 2-for-4, while Augur drove in four and David finished with a RBI.
- Mackenzie Beyer also had two hits in her three at-bats, while walking once.

GAME FACTS
- Coastal put a pair in the top of the first and with two outs, Abbey Montoya fought off a 1-2 pitch and dropped in a bloop single in shallow left center to score Taylor Sweigart – who was hit by a pitch to start the game – and give the Chanticleers the 1-0 advantage.
- The Chants put two more on after a two-out walk to Beyer and another hit batter – Sweigart, her second of the game – but Samantha Yarbrough (2-7) was able to get Kassidy Smith looking to end the second inning.
- Gruich walked after looking at four straight outside the zone with one away in the second. Ortiz then lined a single to center. Cabral then hit a fly ball to right that Sweigart was unable to catch over her shoulder loading the bases. Mayo tied the game up at 1-1 one batter later as she singled through the left side of the infield to score Caroline Nichols, pinch running for Gruich at third.
- Coastal Carolina loaded the bases with one out after back-to-back singles from Dean and Augur and a walk to Samantha Sack – who was down 0-2 in the count before working it back full and drawing the free pass. David then bounced a single back up the middle to score Dean and give the visitors the 2-1 lead. Alexis Reid entered in relief and got the Jags out of the inning one batter later as she was able to get Allison Kreyer to ground into a 5-2-3 inning-ending double play.
- The Chanticleers loaded the bases for the second-straight inning as Dean walked for the second time in the game in the fourth, but A. Reid was able to retire the next two batters of the inning. A. Reid's defense helped her out with the final out as Cronan made a diving stop at short and then threw on to an outstretched Gruich for the force at third.
- Coastal loaded the bases for the third time in the game after a leadoff single by Beyer and one-out walks to Smith and Dean. Augur then drove a 2-2 pitch over the wall in left center for a grand slam to extend the Chanticleer lead to 6-1.
- South Alabama got three of those runs back the next half inning. Gruich lined a single back up the middle and Ortiz walked to put a pair of runners on for the Jaguars. Cabral then launched her first home run of the season on the first pitch she saw during the at-bat. The three-run shot landed beyond the fence in left center to cut the deficit to 7-4.
- Coastal had a runner in scoring position with two outs in the top of the seventh, but Megan Harris made an outstanding diving catch in center to prevent any other runs from scoring and end the inning.
- The Jags gave themselves a chance and brought the tying run to the plate in their final at-bat. Brittani Reid was hit by a 0-2 pitch to lead things off. Kaitlin Beasley-Polko (19-6) however induced two infield pop ups and struck out Kamdyn Kvistad to end the game.

NOTES
- Coastal Carolina has now won four straight in the series.
- The grand slam by Augur was the second allowed by Jaguar pitching this season and first since Louisiana's Lexie Comeaux back on March 23.
- With her 4.2 innings of relief, A. Reid moved past Destin Vicknair for fifth all-time at South in innings pitched as she has now tossed 277.2 in a Jaguar uniform.
- South Alabama homered in all three games of the series versus Coastal Carolina and has now registered at least one home run in 24 of the program's last 32 outings.
- The three-run home run by Cabral marked the 33rd this season for the Jaguars, tying the 2014 squad for sixth-most in a single season. The 33 home runs are the most by a South Alabama team since hitting 37 back during the 2015 campaign.
- The three-run home run was the fourth of Cabral's career and fifth coming on the first pitch of an at-bat by a South Alabama player. South now has recorded five three-run home runs this season.

THEY SAID IT
Head coach Becky Clark

- On adversity: "We just have to keep pushing forward and we can't get caught up in this adversity. Winning is a mentality and you can't let the adversity you are going through take that away from you; you have to stay in that place. When you are able to stay in that place mentally, you know you can perform. We just have to be tough right now. No one wants to go through this, but we are going through it and we have to be mentally tough as we work through it. We can't give into it or start feeling sorry for ourselves. You have to keep playing the game the right way. We've got some things we have to figure out and we keep working on those things in practice. I keep hoping that it clicks for us."
