WOMEN'S TENNIS FALLS AT APPALACHIAN STATE

BOONE, N.C. – Appalachian State jumped out to a 3-0 lead and held on to defeat the University of South Alabama women's tennis team 4-2 Friday morning at the Deer Valley Racquet Club.

The Mountaineers stay unbeaten in the Sun Belt Conference at 3-0 and move to 9-4 overall. The Jaguars have their three-match win streak stopped and fall to 13-2 and 2-1.

DOUBLES
-Appalachian State took the doubles point after dropping just three games combined on courts 2 and 3
-Sandra Anglesjo and Teodora Sevo defeated senior Alexandria Stiteler and sophomore Yu Fujioka 6-1 at No. 2, and Jeannez Daniel and Rebecca Morse won 6-2 on court 3 over sophomore Nikola Kohoutova and freshman Yurie Takanishi

SINGLES
-The Mountaineers won quickly in straight sets at Nos. 1 and 3 to take a 3-0 advantage
-Sevo blanked Stiteler in the first set and went on to win 6-0, 6-4 on court 1, and Maria Jose Zacarias downed junior Leslie Soto 6-2, 6-2 on court 3
-Fujioka grabbed a point back for the Jaguars at No. 2 with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Kate Earnhardt
-Kohoutova trimmed the deficit to 3-2 after she outlasted Jeannez Daniel 6-3, 2-6, 6-3 on court 4
-Heidi Swope ended the comeback at No. 6 with a 7-5, 1-6, 6-2 victory over senior Patricia Martins

"That wasn't quite the result we were looking for, but Appalachian State is a good indoor team. We need to continue getting stronger in our mindset with regards to adjusting going indoors, but today could be a great motivator as we move forward."

NOTES
-Martins was handed her first singles loss of the season to fall to 11-1
-Kohoutova's victory gives her 11 on the season, tying her with Martins for the team lead
-Today was South Alabama's first visit to Boone
-Fujioka and Pasanen each have eight-match win streaks
