FINAL ROUND RAINED OUT, JAGUAR GOLF STARTS SPRING WITH FOURTH-PLACE FINISH

MOBILE, Ala. – After the final round of the Mobile Sports Authority Intercollegiate was cancelled Tuesday due to inclement weather and an unplayable golf course, the University of South Alabama men's golf team finished the 36-hole event in fourth place.

Three Jaguars ended up among the top 20 in the individual standings, led by Yannick Schütz who carded a 5-under-par 139 total Monday on the first day of play.  Peter Staalbo tied for 13th place two strokes behind the junior with Kyle Robinson tying for 17th after posting a two-round score of 142.

Florida State won the team title for the second year in a row after recording a 23-under-par 553 group score as the Seminoles finished five shots in front of Louisville.  Western Kentucky ended up third in the field of 15 schools with a 563 total, with the Jaguars fourth and fellow Sun Belt Conference member Texas State rounding out the top five.  FSU's John Pak was the medalist after firing an 11-under-par 133, which included a 9-under-par 63 in the afternoon that tied the tournament 18-hole record.

THEY SAID IT
Head coach Ben Hannan
On the final round of the tournament being cancelled: "Coming off of shooting 11 under in the afternoon yesterday, the guys were excited to get back out there.  Obviously they are playing very well and wanted the opportunity to compete, unfortunately Mother Nature wasn't so kind and we weren't able to play."
On preparing for the next event: "There are a lot of positives we can take from this week, both individually and as a team.  We've got Auburn coming up next, which we've played before, so we will take a day break and then get back to it.  We'll make some adjustments and keep working to get better to prepare for the next tournament."

Up next: South returns to action when play begins at Auburn's Tiger Invitational on Sunday, Feb. 24.
