NOTES
-This was the first meeting between the two schools since Dec. 2, 2010, and the Tigers first visit to Mobile since Feb. 17, 1998.
-The Jaguars were 10-of-31 from beyond the arc, marking the first time this season they have hit 10 or more treys in consecutive contests.
-USA was just 2-of-4 at the free-throw line, the first time it has attempted fewer than 10 foul shots since a 67-50 win over Coastal Carolina in March 7 a year ago.
-South entered play leading the Sun Belt Conference with 5.1 blocks per game but failed to record a rejection for the first time since a Dec. 5 victory at Alabama last season.
-After making four three-pointers, Kines moved into a tie for fourth place in the school's all-time list — she now has 146 in her career — with Shakira Nettles (2007-10).
-She has now scored in double figures in four straight outings and has paced the Jags in points a team-high five times this year.
-Jones has also scored in double digits in four games in a row after recording 10-plus point four times in the previous nine contests dating back to Feb. 28 last season.
-The double-double was the fourth of the season for Lewis, and her first since the Jags faced Miami (Ohio) on Nov. 15.
-It's the first time Telemaque has posted 10-plus points since scoring 11 in a Nov. 14 win over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, with the total match her season high recorded in the opener against Rutgers on Nov. 5.
THEY SAID IT
Head coach Terry Fowler
Opening statement: "I was proud of the effort we gave in the first three quarters. In the first half we gave up some open three-point shots, which allowed them to gain a five-point advantage going into halftime. The third quarter we were able to find a rhythm and make some shots. They went on a run to end the third and started the fourth quarter with a 7-0 run to stretch their lead to 14. During that stretch they made tough shots and we were unable to convert opportunities."
On Auburn's defensive pressure: "In the second half they turn up their intensity. They showed a different full-court press where they wanted to deny the ball and make it tough for us to get the ball in bounds. They trapped as soon as the ball passed half court and made life difficult for us. We told the team in the locker that the storms we are going through right now will make us better as we continue to move forward in our season."
Senior G Shaforia Kines
On the feeling in the locker room after the game: "We are disappointed with the outcome of the game. We competed with them for most of the game. However, in the second half their defense forced us into making turnovers and they converted off of our mistakes."
On Auburn's defense: "They played tough defense for four quarters. They are long and bring a lot of pressure, which we emphasized in practice. In the first half we were able to make passes to break the press, but as the game progressed they forced us into rushing and making mistakes."
Up next: The Jaguars will visit Tulane at 4 p.m. (CST) on Saturday in their first road game in a month.
