Opening Kick
• This will be the last road game of season for the Jags.
• South's most recent win in its road finale was a 38-17 victory at Georgia State on Nov. 30, 2013.
• USA faces its final Sun Belt Conference East Division opponent of the fall.
• It marks the third year in a row that Jags will play at least one game in the Peach State.
• The Panthers are the only Sun Belt team Jaguar head coach Steve Campbell hasn't faced since taking over the program prior to the 2018 season.
South Alabama-Georgia State Series Notes
• The home team has won each of the last four meetings — and six of seven contests overall — in the series.
• South has claimed three of five match-ups in Sun Belt play since the 2013 campaign.
• Three of the last four meetings have been decided by eight points or less, while three of the Jaguars' four wins over the Panthers have been by a margin of five or fewer points.
• USA's most recent victory in the series, a 13-10 decision in Mobile on Oct. 29, 2016, was the last time that the Jags have scored in the final minute of regulation to win a game; Gavin Patterson provided the final margin with a 30-yard field goal with two seconds left to play.
• Kendall Houston set a school game record in the first-ever meeting between the two programs with 178 yards rushing, a mark that would stand for nearly four years that still ranks third on the school's top-10 list in the category.
Notes From The Last Georgia State Meeting
• Only two Jags on the active roster coming into play — Riley Cole and Rocel McWilliams — started for the Jaguars when the two programs last met.
• It was the first start of McWilliams' career, as he would go on to equal a then career-high five stops for South's defense.
• USA QB Dallas Davis tied a school game record with 27 completions, and after throwing for 297 yards on the night surpassed the 4,000-yard mark in both passing and total offense yards in his career.
• The 11 yards on the ground both Davis and Denzel Foster finished with were the lowest total ever for the Jaguars' leading rusher in a game.
• After averaging 46.4 yards per kick with four of five punts ending up inside the GSU-20, Corliss Waitman was named the Ray Guy Award Punter of the Week.
Notes On Campbell's Coaching/Playing Career
• Campbell's 163-71 mark as a head coach includes going 33-15 over four years at Central Arkansas from 2014-17, where he guided the Bears to back-to-back NCAA Football Championship Subdivision playoff appearances before taking over at South Alabama.
• He has led two programs to national championships — Delta (Miss.) State in 2000 at the NCAA Division II level and Mississippi Gulf Coast C.C. to the 2007 National Junior College Athletic Association crown.
• In 20 seasons no team coached by Campbell finished below .500 prior to the 2018 campaign.
• Campbell has coached on the staffs of Pat Dye (Auburn graduate assistant, 1988-89) and Jackie Sherrill (Mississippi State assistant, 2003).
• Campbell and Jaguar coordinators Kenny Edenfield and Greg Stewart were teammates on Troy's 1987 NCAA Division II national championship squad.
Minter Earns Postseason Bowl Invitation
It was announced on Monday that Jaguar RB Tra Minter has accepted an invitation to compete in the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl, which will be contested on Saturday, Jan. 18, 2020, in the Rose Bowl.  In nearly three seasons with the program, he has accumulated 2,023 yards rushing, 1,310 yards on kickoff returns and 4,083 all-purpose yards — all figures that are among the top three in South's career record book — including leading the Sun Belt while ranking fifth in the latter category with 1,604 all-purpose yards this fall.  Minter is the second Jag to ever be invited to play in the all-star game, joining former quarterback Brandon Bridge who competed in the 2015 edition of the event.
More On Minter
Minter paced all players with 137 yards on 22 carries in South's last game against Louisiana as he not only recorded his third 100-yard game of the year but became the third individual in program history to rush for more than 2,000 yards in a career. Â The running back also surpassed 100 yards on kickoff returns in the contest, finishing with 115 on five run backs, to end the day with 253 all-purpose yards, his highest total against a league opponent. Â The effort made Minter the second Jag ever to record 4,000 all-purpose yards as well.
Davis Does It Too
Redshirt freshman Carlos Davis has moved up the depth chart to become the primary back-up to Minter, and in the last two games he has run for 185 yards while scoring a touchdown in each contest and averaging 7.1 yards per carry. Â That included posting the first 100-yard effort of his career last time out against the Ragin' Cajuns after finishing with 122 yards on just 10 attempts, making it the first time USA has had multiple runners post 100-plus yards in the same contest since Houston (178) and Xavier Johnson (107) accomplished the feat in a 27-13 win over Troy on Oct. 24, 2014.
Reed Rolling
Senior CB Travis Reed broke up a pair of passes in the Louisiana contest, marking the fifth time in six league outings he has been credited with at least one pass defensed; that includes recording multiple interceptions and/or pass break ups on three occasions during that stretch. Â The performance helped Reed move into the top 10 on the school's season record list for passes defensed as he now has a team-high seven.
Coming On In Conference Contests
After leading the team in tackles once his first three years as a Jag, Riley Cole has now turned the trick two times in the last four contests after posting eight against the Ragin' Cajuns.  Since the start of Sun Belt play, the redshirt junior linebacker has recorded 38 total stops and five tackles for loss — which both rank second on the squad — while he is one of three individuals with a pair of sacks against conference foes.
High Marks For Merchant
Over the last three contests, OL Hadon Merchant has not only finished with an assignment mark of 90 percent or higher but posted his three highest overall grades of the season. Â In the match-up with Louisiana, the redshirt sophomore's 90 percent technique grade was the highest given out to a Jaguar this fall; he earned a 91 percent overall mark as well while also reaching double figures in knockdowns after being credited with a team-high 10. Â Merchant's 51 pancake blocks this fall are most on the squad.
