Richie Riley
- On what Coleman brings to the team: "Don gives us an element of speed. He's as fast with the ball as anyone that I've coached. His ability to create opportunities for us in transition really sets the tempo in how we want to play. Last year we were not nearly as fast in transition as we wanted to be and he allows us to do that. Obviously, he brings the element of scoring the ball. He averaged almost 15 points per game in the Pac-12 – which is pretty good – and had multiple 30-point games. He gives us a really dynamic guard that can change the game, not only with how he scores the ball but getting other guys involved."
- On how Coleman has improved in the last year: "He's had dramatic improvement. He's become much more efficient and I think we'll see that when we start playing real games. He came in with a label as a volume guy at Cal – his percentages were not where he wanted them to be – and he's had a really disciplined work ethic. He's also shown great improvement defensively. He's learned to appreciate the value of defense, and he's become one of our better on-ball defenders."
- On Locure's progress: "The thing that jumps off the page about him is how well he shoots the basketball. He's one of our better shooters. He shoots it with deep range and has a quick trigger. There will be games this season where he runs off and hits multiple 3s, and some of those will come in moments where we really need them, because he has that about him, where he loves the moment. For a young kid, that's encouraging to see. He needs to continue to grow and get stronger; that's always a tough transition for an 18-year old kid, especially one battling veteran guys on our roster every day. He needs to continue to get used to how we do things. He has a ceiling that's extremely high. He's going to help this team as a freshman."
Don Coleman
- On how beneficial his year as a redshirt was: "I think it was good for my development; I got way better. I got smarter, I learned the offense more, I got closer with my coaches and teammates, and everything with South Alabama. I needed that."
- On how the system benefits him: "The offense is great for the way I play. Coach Riley lets me play my game and play freely. There are no limitations on my game and he lets me get players and myself better. I'm like another coach on the floor."
- On what he's seen from Locure: "He's young so he's got a lot of learning to do, but he's great. He listens and asks questions while he's watching film. He's in the gym every day, working extra before and after practice. He's shooting the ball really well. At the scrimmage yesterday he shot it really well – I think he had six 3s. He's playing more controlled and on two feet, and is taking coaching. He's going to be good."
